My ten year old greyhound Amber has now been diagnosed with kidney failure to add to her other problems(heart, thyroid, arthritis and blindness). I was told to put her on Hills KD diet. After a few days adding it to her normal food she developed loose poohs. She does have a delicate tummy and is usually only okay on Supadog sensitive. Unfortunatelt it has 20% protein. I was then given Royal Canin kidney diet but that immediatley had the same effect. I have been told to take her off it and put her back on her previous diet untill she settles down then to try Hills canned food. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone offer help or advice. Amber and I would be grateful. Thanks Pauline
Pauline - this really is one for your vets to answer as I dont think many,if any of us are qualified enough to comment on something like kidney failure Im afraid. The only thing I can suggest is to stick it out with a new food type - most GHs do have sensitive tummies & will have loose stools for a while if changed. Stick with it - it will resolve itself. By chopping & changing back & forth things will never improve stool wise.....you need at least a month solidly on a new diet - with no change, to determine if it suits their digestive system or not.
Her body will get used to the KD - honestly!
Keep us informed on how things go. wishing you all, all the best.

Hi Pauline Fingers crossed it all goes okay will be thinking about you.
My old black lab was really ill with cancer and the vet put her on Hills Diet (dryed food) to build her up. The dryed type didn't suit but the canned stuff did. The vet said some dogs do better on the canned food when unwell. But he didn't explain why?
Hope you get it all sorted soon.

Thank you for the replies. It was the Vet who told me to keep changing the diet. She had to go back on to the Supadog sensitive to get her back to normal stools which happened straight away. So I guess now we try to tinned Hills.I will see how she goes with that. Thanks, let you know what happens. Pauline and Amber.XX
