Today's my first day on the forum so 'hello everyone'. I look forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks!
I'm Kate - Amber's Mum (and Alfie's, Jessie's, Sox's, Emily's and Fred's as well !) Amber and Alfie are our beloved greyhounds. Jessie is a border collie/labrador cross (yes, I know, strange mix with 2 greyhounds in the house - trust me, it's a long story!!) Sox, Emily and Fred are the cats!
Amber is 8 & 1/2 years old and we've had her since she was 3. She is an ex racing greyhound who raced at Sheffield but got thrown out after 4 races as she was 'un-genuine' - i.e. wanted to play!! Bless her - she's not stupid - never mind working for a living when there's a comfy sofa waiting!!
We also had Ozzy (her litter brother) who sadly we had to say goodbye to last year due to the dreaded cancer. We had him for only 3 years sadly... He was a grand dog - ran over 120 races and won a few too we understand. Even ran in a few open races too. When he decided to retire himself one day, it seemed a great idea for him to come live with us and Amber. We had 3 lovely years with him but sadly all good things come to an end. We miss him greatly and he can never be replaced.......
this is where Alfie comes into the equation.......
Amber was lost without Ozzy and it broke our hearts everytime we saw her stood staring up the garden path (where she'd last seen him). She just wasn't the same dog, with those big sad eyes questioning where he was. The only solution was her to get a young fella to dote on and Alfie is the lucky boy!
He fit in really well and it's like he always been here. Although he can never replace Ozzy, he's made Amber (& us) happy (as all our pets do) and we love him to bits!!
Anyway, that's a bit about my 4 legged crew. Hope to chat to you all some time soon
