Just curious about other bitches' spey scars. Pearly's is very jaggy and quite spiky to the touch. It looks like you can see each stitch, as if the person who did it has used a up-and-over running stitch when sewing her up again. She doesn't have any water problems and she doesn't lick at it, but I'm wondering if it's 'normal' for a spey scar to be so prominent in both sight and touch?
Tilly's is too. She was speyed eight weeks ago and she has healed beautifully. Think that the jaggyness is just the internal stitches healing. From what I can remember from working at Battersea you can pretty much always feel something as that is how we checked if a bitch had been speyed - called their midline. If worried though check with your vet to put your mind at rest. Tilly doesn't seem bothered by her scar though the hair is (v v slowly) beginning to grow back in so I think that it itches a bit!
I reckon that it should settle down. Eildih's spey scar was just the same and so was Iain's arm when he fell through a glass door. Both of them are fine now.
I probably should have said that Pearly was speyed at least 2.5 years ago!!! I didn't mean to give the impression that it was a recent thing. It's more out of curiosity that I was asking, rather than being worried about her healing.
It doesn't half show up on her hairless pink tummy!!
daisy's scar was jagged for a few weeks after her op but it's settled down now so that you can't even see where she was cut. her op was over a year ago.
Millie was spayed only a few weeks ago and you can hardly see where she was done already. Its healed really nicely and the vet hardly shaved her at all. Just shaved a tiny wee bit where she made the incision

Jenna was spayed over 4 years ago. You can't see her scar but you can feel her internal stitches when she lies on her back and you rub her tummy. It doesn't bother her at all if i touch them.

That sounds exactly like Pearly. Reassuring to know! Thanks, Yvonne.
