it's that time of year when my job starts to get busy again. I'm going to kick things off with the GUMVA Rodeo on the 29th April, Garscube Estate, Glasgow, from 10am - 5pm.
This is a fayre that is run by Glasgow Vet School. Each year they pick a few charities to benefit from the money they raise on the day and this year, GAL is lucky enough to be one of those charities.
For this reason (and the fact that it's a fabby day out), it would be great to see as many folk there as possible.
Now for the really important bit.....the Rodeo is a very important opportunity for GAL to raise awareness of the homeless hounds in its care so it is vital that we get as many of them there as possible. If you can bring a dog from Eddie and Rachel's kennels at Langbank for the day, please email meCarolmGAL@aol.comto make arrangements.
If you want to support GAL, this is one of, if not the best way of doing it on the day.
I'll be there Carol - it was a great day last year and I really enjoyed it.
Jerry will stay home with our hounds and I will bring a dog from Rachel and Eddies, or more than one if Rachel decides that some can travel together. I will ring her and see what she thinks.
To anyone who has not been - it is a really 'grand day out' - lots to see and many interested people to chat to about hounds (our favourite topic).
Plus - the shop will be there won't it Carol? So it's a great chance to pick up some new doggie bling!
I'm looking forward to the Rodeo this year too! Previous years have been great with plenty for everyone of all ages to see and do.
Like Lesley says, lots of people are interested and stop to chat when they see a group of homeless hounds or spot them being walked round. The dogs just love all the attention they get! And with a bit of luck, some may get a new home.

It's defo SUNNY! Pictures are from the 2004 Rodeo and that's Sunny there with her previous owner. Dotty did look VERY similar to Sunny, if you look up 'Loving Touch' on www.greyhound-data.com you'll see her..
Come y'all - I see lots of chit chat here, but no more volunteers yet to bring homeless dogs from Rachel and Eddie's at Langbank. It's only a couple of weeks away!

Phew thank god we cleared that up I have been driving Steve and kids mad getting them to compare markings, I was so sure it was Sunny, but then I have been known to get my own twin girls mixed up so it was possible i'd got it wrong
Sorry Carol I didn't notice the pics were 2004 till after either.

As Caroline quite rightly said, that will be GAL doing the Greyhound Parade.....That's why I need as many dogs as possible brought from the kennels:the more homeless hounds we can parade and have there on the day, the more we might get homes for.
I am however, away doing exciting things over the weekend (climbing, abseiling, etc...whoopee!) so you won't get a response until Monday now.
If you are in dire desperation though and you can't wait to find out if you can take a dog to the Rodeo, speak nicely to Mr Dave and he might give you my mobile number.
I'm now looking for people who are going to the Rodeo, who can take charge of a homeless hound for the day. Please email me CarolmGAL@aol.com if you have a free couple of hands on Saturday.
That's fine Carol, but remember my talents lie in sales!! Have now sold 24 tickets for the psychic night and 40 trolley tokens. So if you can give me a laid back doggy I'll still be able to do my thing. (which is not taking NO for an answer) You have all been warned! Bring your purses.
We'll be there and one of us will have a spare pair of hands to take charge of a homeless hound. I must say, I'm looking forward to it. Hope the weather stays sunny!
Wonder if I'll have to buy the dog a toy this year - remember last year the dog stole a squeaky from a wee boy just as his mum was paying for it and I had to buy him another!
I had a smashing day and believe it or not, I have got sunburn for the second Sunday running with our awful, Scottish weather!
As Dave said, the dogs were brilliantly behaved. They really did themselves and GAL proud!
I want to send a huge thanks to all our guys who brought the dogs up from Eddie and Rachel's and also to the people who helped to mind them and show them off at the Rodeo. I was really pleased to see so many of our lovely dogs there!
I have to say that the highlight of my day was meeting a wee dog called Pixie. (You'll maybe be hearing a bit more about her at a later date.) She is an absolute stunner and just the kind of dog who will make you grin from ear to ear.
Anyway, like Dave, I'm off for a seat and one or two or maybe even three cold ones.
We had a brill day out at the Rodeo. The sun came out and for a change, there was no accompanying icy wind, so you could easily get burnt! Both Billy and me have big red faces tonight.
Thanks to all those who brought homeless dogs from Rachel and Eddie's. All the dogs were good as gold and sold themselves to everyone they met! I chatted to loads of people who wanted to talk about Deacon and Bert after seeing their red GAL jackets and I handed out loads of business cards and directed them to where GAL had their tent. Hopefully some dogs will get a new home as a result of all our efforts today!
As usual, Vegas lapped up all the admiration and treats. And so did the adorable Pixie, who we brought home with us for a week to see if her owner claims her. Pixie is one of the cutest little lurchers I've ever seen - her ears have got a life of their own! At the moment both Vegas and Pixie are roaching on the couches in our lounge. A perfect end to a perfect day!
Glad everyone had a great day out..especialy the homeless pooches. Unfortunately that horrible work thing got in tne way for us this year..we had a smashing time last year.Hopefuly some of the homeless dogs will get their forever homes soon after behaving so well.
Can't see the photos Dave for some reason so looking forward to seeing the rest later today.

NO MATTER HOW LITTLE MONEY AND HOW FEW POSSESSIONS YOU OWN,HAVING A DOG MAKES YOU RICH.
Hi Folks, here's my piccies from the Rodeo, I think a good time was had by all and the homeless dogs behaved really well. As with previous Rodeo's we had a fair bit of interest round the GAL stall but not really any committed potential adopters around, still, a large number of business cards and application forms were dished out so time will tell. Shop sales weren't up to much really, just under £200 but as we're one of the chosen charities this year I'm expecting a nice 4 figured cheque in the post towards the end of the year..
SO, they day yesterday went really well, myself and Carol arrived at 8:30am to set up the stall, we were given a pitch right in the corner of the charity area which was situated a wee bit away from the main display ring and catering tents, oddly our little pitch was the only place in the entire area that remained muddy the whole day! With the stall all set out we both breathed a sigh of relief when one of the catering wagons finally started serving coffee at about 10am. All of a sudden lots of the kennel dogs started arriving with our volunteers, it must have been chaos at the kennels getting them all sorted out. As the crowds were still slowly wondering in the event organisers asked us if we wanted to be first into the big display ring to do a homeless dog parade to attract the crowds round the area so off we all trooped round the ring for 10 minutes, that did indeed get the audience interested!
The rest of the day was pretty much spent mulling round our stall with the volunteers and the homeless dogs taking turns wondering round the show ground talking to people and giving out leaflets, by about 1pm all the dogs were pretty much flaked out as it was so warm, I'm sporting a nice red face and arms this morning, what fab scottish weather we got!
Anyways I really enjoyed myself and I really need to say how well the homeless dogs behaved, especially wee Toby who's probably one of the most anxious and frightened dogs we've had in our care for a while, he's come out of his shell a we bit in his 2 months he's been with us and he coped really well with the noise and the crowds.
Ok, here's the piccies..

AAWWWWW!! OK, here's wee PIXIE. Pixie was found as a stray on Friday evening by a member of the public who then contacted GAL. Denise went over to see her and really couldn't bear to see her go to a council pound so she's now under GAL's care and we're trying to find her owners. Big thanks to Christine and Billy for offering to foster her!!
