I was lucky enough to be invited through to see my Millie's breeder today who showed me all Millie's brothers and sisters and Millie's mum. They were all beautiful and some very similar to Millie. Millie's mum has just happened to have her second litter of puppies and they are 3 weeks old. He let me see them so i have posted some pics, cant remember who it was in another post wanted to see young puppies
The last pic of golden bitch is the mum of the pups and my Millie's mum

They are gorgeous and their mum looks so sweet. How nice for you to be able to go along and find out how Millies mum, brothers and sisters are all doing. Fiona will be chapping your door for a viewing. LOL Nora

...that'll be the same trainer then thats been busting my hump to take 2 bitches from him, he's been waiting 4 weeks for me to move them, needed space for some pups he said, lets hope they are still there.
Wonder how many of these bundles of joy will see their first birthday.

I know, he told me today that he was looking for a home for one of them and i think he was trying to hint for me to take her but i havent got room just now for anymore. I hope folk dont think bad of me for going to see them, i am not agreeing with anything he does! I just, as many other people would if they had the chance, wanted to see my dogs litter mates and mum. I saw what i went to see and thats it. I did wonder where the rest of Millie's litter were as he said there were 11 in her litter and he only had 5!!

Poor bitch. Hope she gets a chance of a home once her days as a breeding machine are over
I would be curious to see things for myself too, so don't blame you at all for going. But at the end of the day the vast majority of these breeders (in fact, all of them really) will sell these pups purely for profit and have no idea of where they may end up, so that's hardly what you'd call 'responsible breeding' Not saying that this applies to this man as I do not know him, but it does annoy me when breeders apparently take such 'delight' in seeing again retired dogs that they bred blah, blah - if they really cared about the dogs that they bred then they would want to know what happened to each and every one of them, in every case.
Ohhhhhhh they are so cute. I've never seen really young greyhound pups, its made me go all broody.....(for another pup not another Alix!!!! trust me)
Jennifer I don't think you were wrong for going I would have went to. I've managed to find pictures of Sunnys Dad (Staplers Jo) but can't find pics of her mum or any brothers and sisters, so I would have jumped at the chance for a visit to see her family. I think your visit and feelings towards Trainers and racing are two different things.

That's the same for all dog breeders, not just greyhound ones. It's a business for them. It's how they make their living. They couldn't possibly keep track of every single dog they breed. If nobody bothered to breed dogs, cats etc. then we wouldn't be able to own pets.
That might sound harsh but as animal lovers, we love our pets, where would we get them if nobody bred them? They would become extinct.
The pups look adorable. Hard to believe they are 3 weeks old (as they grow so quick), and they look podgy
On the downside, it obviously makes it difficult to save some dogs when the trainers very often want dogs moved quickly so to make room for more. Just like a big conveyer belt....
I found this quite depressing - by the looks of it I'm in the minority - but it would be "interesting" to follow the pups' lives for the next couple of years along with their mum.

I don't think you can say ALL dog breeders are the same. I've met many really good dog breeders who kept track of all their dogs, checked out the homes before the puppies went and didn't hesitate in taking dogs back if need be. They paid out a fortune in vet bills and hip scores which many breeders wouldn't do. They didn't make much money on the puppies they sold and certainly didn't make their living from it. I think it should be mandatory for dog breeders to keep track of the puppies they breed and if they can't keep track, then they've bred too many. We don't need puppy farms or money orientated breeders to prevent the breeds from becoming extinct. There are plenty of breeders that care for the animals they breed and care what happens to them once they've left their care. These are the people we should be buying our pets from. They are the ones that will have paid for hip scores, wormed the puppies and made sure the puppies are well socialised before giving them to new homes. It's all about education - far too many people just go to any breeder and feel sorry for the puppies, or fall in love with the puppies without realising that the pups are full of worms, or have bad hips 'cause the mother wasn't hip scored or haven't seen any people but the hand that throws the food in every day. If they'd just read a book, or searched a bit more they would have found the good breeder who cares about the breed, and the puppies and that's who everyone should be getting their dogs from. In an ideal world anyway...
Anyway, the puppies are gorgeous Jennifer. I don't think bad of you for going to visit, I certainly would have. It's good that Dave pointed out the fact that the trainer is trying to get rid of two bitches to make room for the pups. It stops us awwing and ahhhing and brings us back to reality.

Yeah, good point Jane. I re-read my post this morning and it didn't come across as I meant it to. I really should keep my mouth shut when I'm in such a negative mood, I only regret it later. I'm not saying all dog breeders are the same and I agree that we certainly don't need "puppy farms". IMO dog breeders fall into three categories; the really unscrupulous ones who really don't care one bit about their dogs; the people who do make a living from it and although they treat it primarily as a " business" also look after their dogs well but probably don't follow their lives, and people who do it for the love of the dogs, not their sole means of income and are genuinely concerned that their pups go to very good homes where they will be well looked after.
I would personally shoot the first of these categories and wish there were more of the third. However, I think that realistically the second category are the most prevalent.
I agree that many people are uneducated about dog breeders and, as you say, in an ideal world we would all buy our dogs from the "third" category.

P.S. Jennifer, I would have gone to visit the pups as well.

Well, the minority just increased by one!! Yes, the little pups are gorgeous. But how many of them will be at the mercy of one or other of the greyhound rescue organisations. There are dogs being put to sleep on a daily basis in rescue centres to make room for the others picked up off the streets when they have been discarded by their owners. My own precious girl being one such throw away! I help out GAL as much as I can not because I love the look of the hounds (although I have always loved the shape of greyhound and lurchers) but mainly because I am appalled at the fate of these lovely dogs all in the name of a bet!!
I am at a loss to see the attraction in the fashion at the moment of the little Shitty Sues and Lazy Apsos! When I meet them at the park the owners are always impressed with my girl's behaviour and ask what training class I took her to. I always take great pride in telling them that she is just a scabby dug from Bothwell Bridge that cost me £47, including speying and has never put a paw inside a training class.
Sorry to go on and on and getting off the subject but I do feel very srongly about all the poor little mongrels pts when they could be homed by the folk paying £300 plus for an untrainable bundle of fluff! I also tell these owners how wonderful a greyhound would have been.
Apologies but thanks for the rant.
Joyce
PS I do hope you are wrong Dave! But probably not.
I hope folk dont think bad of me for going to see them, i am not agreeing with anything he does! I just, as many other people would if they had the chance, wanted to see my dogs litter mates and mum.
Hi Jennifer, of course I don't think bad of you, lots of folk would do the same thing - Jane got my intentions to a T - My posts was meant to stop you awwing and ahhhing and bring some reality back to the subject..
