Seems that work on preparing the track is underway now - my folks saw bulldozers in clearing away the ground where the track is to be. Article in the East Lothian Courier also saying that it should be sorted by the end of the year.
I am not impressed by this new stadium being built. I know everyone has their opinion on greyhound racing. If i had my way i would ban the lot. I know a good friend of mine who used to work in a greyhound racing stadium and i am horrified at the things she has informed me of that used to go on and still do. She had to leave her job as she couldn't go on working there. She was so damaged by her experience that she feels she cannot have anything more to do with the industry. She campaigns against greyhound racing. I worked in the horse racing industry and i ensured the horses in my care were well looked after. However, if they were not performing highly enough and above all not bringing in wads of cash, they were eliminated, sent off to their fates. I left the industry as i couldn't cope with it anymore. Would be interesting to hear of other people's views seeing as this new greyhound racing stadim will be right on our doorstep! I like many others will be keeping a close eye on what's going on in Wallyford. Mabel.
Personally I think it's only going to make matters a hundred times worse for greyhound charities such as GAL when the new stadium opens. As if they aren't pushed enough!! It worries me where they are going to get all the greyhounds to race there and what is going to happen to them when their racing days are over.
It is sadly a case of wait and see, this is the very reason my friends and I started the dog walks on the East coast to educate and promote the greys as pets. No matter what we say or do the stadium will go ahead and we have to promote grey rescue now for the sake of the dogs, and I agree that the stadium will bring with it more problems and that it why we have to do this, I am also keeping an eye on things but at the end of the day rescue centres can only do so much. Lets just hope we can win over more people to realise what this industry means for the dogs. Nora
