LETS BELIEVE IN MIRACLES, thought I would give you a photo of my two collies as I know you like the breed the black is Fly and the tan mix is Juno. Nora

Juno the tan mix is very like Bonnie my last collie ..the one that used to keep Leo and Flash in line. One of Leo's first acts of naughtiness when we first got him was try try and get her to play with him. An old dog by that time she liked to dose a lot on a blanket on a chair. When she refused to play Leo grabbed the blanket and a lump of leather chair underneath ... dragged old collie plus blanket onto the floor removing a bit of armchair at the same time. My goodness he was lucky that by that time she was old and slow or she would have given him the hiding of his life. disturbing a sleeping tiger....I would extend that to include...elderly working sheepdogs dosing on chairs.

Leo is still with us. The more "aggressive" chemo that he has had to have over the past few months is now beginning to take its toll. Have discussed with the vet how lucky we have been that Leo has managed to tolerate so much chemo... we have agreed to cut back a bit to give me a chance to build Leo up a bit both physically and mentally before we decide on the way forward.
Kind regards to all

It is taking him a while to get over the side effects of doxorubicin but he perked up a lot today and was up for a .... well I would say "run" on the moor but it was more of a gentle stroll with a few spurts of galloping. I had hoped that we could have avoided Leo's having any sickness, diarrhoea, and undue tiredness due to chemo.... but I guess that after all these months of various forms of chermo I was being a bit unrealistic. Even "Super dog" couldn't quite make it.
Mind you Leo did make it through two bouts of infection when his immune system was down due to the chemo and so he had used up a lot of luck.
The lympho is in remission ... it is just a pity that Leo's digestive system became sensitive to doxorubicin just as he was about to come to the end of his course. He could only have five doses of the stuff as it is so dangerous and Leo had four doses....so he has had most of it.His heart has stood up to the doses that he has had....who knows what damage the last dose might possibly have done? It is all a bit of a balancing act.
Thanks again for your good wishes....means a lot to have people "Rooting" for my boy. Gosh I lit so many candles last week begging any benevolent "universal force" out there to get Leo through things and start eating and drinking again that I am fortunate I didn't burn the house down No sweeter sound than a dog that has only been up for taking small amounts of fluid from your hands or a saucer suddenly deciding to go to his water bowl and slurp a decent drink. First time Leo has been hugged and kissed for doing his usual .... slurping his water and dribbling half of it on the kitchen floor despite the splash proof bowl...the rubber mat and the towel under it. Leo's noisy messy drinking is an art form.
Love to all

Thanks for updating us - Leo is such a fighter, and wants to be well, so it must have meant such a lot to you to hear him slurping his water. Wishing you both strength and hoping you have good times ahead.
Glad to hear Leo is continuing his fight. It must be such a relief to see some normal behaviour (even if it does resemble a flash flood in your kitchen)!
Keep us posted on your boy. We'll be thinking of you.
The vet was okay about stopping Leo's chemo re the side effects. It seems that my strong boy might have tolerated enough chemo to maybe buy him another six months or a year of life... and with an awful lot of luck the lympho might not return.
In the rain Leo was out today for a couple of hours in the Trossachs.....we took him there in the early stages of his illness taking a load of photos.....thinking that he might not be able to face that kind of hike again.
He has also lived to enjoy the bulbs flowering that we planted together last spring as a memorial garden for him. It would be great if he can walk with Flash and me beside the river next year and see the heaps of wild flower seeds flower that we sowed there to try and ease the pain if Flash and I were left to walk without him.
My beautiful golden boy.....please let it be God's will that if he must leave me....it is done in peace....in the past few weeks he has suffered enough.
Love to all

Let's hope Leo sees the results of all your planting! Our thoughts are with you and Leo - he's a tough cookie to put up with so much chemo treatment. Take care and give Leo and Flash a BIG hug from me Vegas and Dixie!
We'll all wish with you Eleanor! I think, at the end of the day, it's what we all wish for - a peaceful end. However, for the time being, we'll just keep willing him to keep fighting!
Thanks again everyone for your support for Leo. He is much better and although a bit thin he seems to have plenty energy and so we are slowly building up our weekend hikes with the dogs.
We wish everybody and all the dogs a very very happy Christmas
Eleanor, Tom, Leo and Flash.xxxxxx

Happy 2007 to everyone. Tom has been on holiday for a fortnight over the festive season and Leo has enjoyed lots of "Away days" exploring new places with Flash.Their main joy was getting scent of deer. We could see the tracks but thanks goodness neither of the dogs saw one. We keep jangly things on their collar hoping that assorted wildlife can hear the lurchers coming from miles away.

I hardly dared catch up with Leo's story after all the sadness I have endured of late. I want you to know that it really lifted my spirits to see that he is still alive-and well!!! I am so pleased to hear that he is improving and that he is getting out and about to his favorite spots.
Happy New Year Eleanor and hugs to Leo and Flash, Em xx
Its a bit up and down with Leo at the moment. Doxorubicin seems to have done some damage to his digestive system but the vet assures me that dogs do recover from this ....albeit they tend to remain a bit thin. Eleanorxxxxx
