This is not greyhound related in any way, but thought i might get helpful advice from fellow dog owners.
To let u know, i live in a ground floor flat and have stayed here for the last 5 years. Things were fine until about 4 months ago a young guy moved in across the hall from me. He has recently gone out and bought 2 staffie bitch pups who are currently about 12 weeks old. They are not the problem but the owner is. He keeps letting them widdle in the stair and i have been to his door several times to ask him to clean it up. Once it was right at my front door
As well as it being smelly and unhiegenic (?), i dont want other neighbours thinking its my dogs!! Im really annoyed as i have mopped it up before and put a note through his door about it and also politely asked him to stop letting them do it. What more can i do? Is there anyone i could get in touch with about it? I dont know if the council would do anything as all the property's are owned.
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated as im getting really stressed about it. Just not very nice stepping out in the hall everyday to find dog wee!!
Thanks

As far as I know (and I might be wrong), councils offer mediation services to neighbours who are having difficulties but this isn't very helpful as he doesn't sound like the sort of person who would go to something like this.
I were you, I would phone your local dog warden as they tend to be very good and ask him/her to pop round and have a little chat to your friendly neighbour about responsible pet owning.
Failing that, you could always threaten to contact the police and have an ASBO slapped on the dirty wee begger.
I'd phone the dog warden who'll warn him on your behalf. We had a problem with a local dog who walks himself and is left to "do his business" himself on local playing fields, we reported him and the dog warden had a quiet word.
Hi Jennifer, I would phone the council and see if it is a matter for their environmental health officer. They can get involved in non-council areas especial if its to do with unhygienic things like dog poo and wee, and areas like excessive noise. Give them a try- they can only say no.
Thanks for your advice. When i get home from college this afternoon i'll phone the council and i know an East Lothian Dog Warden from working at the kennels so i'll give him a bell later. Hopefully get it sorted out

I'd try the SSPCA as well - cos there is an issue if he is not taking the dogs out. An officer might be able to go and talk to him about his care of the dogs.
He does walk them but its really worrying as he never has leads on them and it makes me cringe to watch them cross the road. Once one of the pups sat down in the middle of the road and a car had to slam the brakes on!! The guy is just young and he has no common sense. I have told him he should have them on the lead while anywhere near a road but he just says he wants to train them while they are young. If he carries on the way he's going, they wont live till 6 months!!

I really can't believe the irresponsibility of some people, does he not realise how dangerous it is not having dogs on a lead near roads?!!! I've seen first hand what a mess it makes of dogs/cats etc when they've been hit by a car and believe me it's not a pretty sight. Why do people take on dogs when they're not going to give them the best care and take full responsibility?!! It really does infuriate me - sorry for ranting! Hope for the dogs sakes he comes to his senses.
Just phoned the council "antisocial behaviour line", but she said i wont see action being taken straight away. She said everytime it happens ive to phone and complain and then the council will see its a nuisance and do something. How frustrating, why can they not just send the dog warden round to say something eh!! AAARGGGHHHH!!!

Do you have a Factor? If so, I think usually the whole building will have the same Factor. They may be able to send out a letter to everyone reminding them about keeping the close & its environs clean so that it does not appear to be you that has complained about the dogs in particular - it may be worth a call to them first to discuss the situation.
There is no one who comes and cleans the stair etc or cuts the grass out the back if this is what you mean I wish there was then maybe i wouldnt be so annoyed about the whole thing.

Maybe you could phone the environmental health people? Maybe speak to your other neighbours and get across that it's not your dogs and see if you could all get together and get your concerns as a group to this guy. He may take it more seriously if more people involved.
Jennifer, i do work twice a week in a Citizens Advice Bureau. There is one in Musselburgh on the high street. If you have no time to pop in for advice then i am happy to look into this problem for you and see what info. i could print off for you. The options mentioned i.e. dog warden, council (mediation service) and antisocial behaviour helpline are all options but all are limited in different ways and not necessarily suitable for your situation. Before jumping in and doing things that may make the situation worse and i am thinking of you, your dogs and the other owners dogs here first, look into all available options. Then you can decide what is best. The Citizens Advice Bureau have lots of info that can help you. It's free advice/information, up to date etc. If you'd like me to help you then let me know, i'd be happy to help. Lorraine.
Sorry Jennifer maybe I used the wrong terminology.
I was thinking of a Property Management Company that looks after the building - usually flats have one appointed in the title deeds I think. They usually look after the lighting in the close or the maintenance of the security door/roof etc
Been in touch with council again as he is now letting the pups poo in the stair and all the neighbours have come together about this, so the council say if there are witnesses, which there are, they can fine the guy!!
Im so pleased something is at last being done!!
