Hi Folks, we'll as it's April 30th it means we're exactly 6 months after our AGM which means we're exactly half way through our homing year, thought you'd like to know how GAL are getting on and if we're on course to meet that elusive 200 dogs homed target!
As of today GAL have rehomed 95 dogs this 'year', a great total for 6 months in the life of a charity such as ourselves. I think with a bit of work we can meet the 200 target so fingers crossed.
6 months ago at our AGM we had 64 homeless dogs in our care, as of today we have 78! Some things never change I guess and I think that days when GAL had an average of 30 dogs in our care are long gone. Of those 78 dogs only 16 of them are females which again is making things difficult in the homing stakes (cos everyone wants a girl!!)
As we continue into this year another problem we have is the drop in foster homes, at our AGM we had 23 foster homes, this has reduced now to only 10 so I guess it's important to try to get more foster homes over the next few months. It makes my job so much easier to have lots of dogs in foster care which are much easier to home than the ones from our kennels.
Anyways big thanks to everyone who's helped make my homing job a bit easier in the last 6 months and lets hope for an equally successful next 6!
Congratulations on the great re-homing total, sure you will make the big 200 as long as we are all out there spreading the word through one thing or another. It is sad there are so many dogs in care and can only hope the trend changes for the better. The foster home side of things is pretty tragic with the decline of numbers, we all know many of the dogs would not be in their forever homes without the fosterers. I just wish I was in the situation to help out, maybe some day! I would like to say great work you guys and long may you all continue to do so. If I can help in any way please feel free to contact me. Nora
