We are just back from holiday after taking 4 dugs, 2 kids and ourselves over to Islay. What a lovely place to be. We spent most of our time looking at beaches and found two that are quite appropriate for the gru's. Machir Beach and the Big Strand. Our first visit to the beach with all the dogs was quite eventfull for me that is.... the dogs just loved it. I had Zak on a long lead and Missy, Dusty and Max all off lead (yep I know a recipe for disaster!). As Zak's recall isn't very good (so I thought) we decided for now to keep him on lead..... BIG MISTAKE! within mins of getting onto Machir Beach all the dogs took off for the water.... Zak included which meant I ended up flat on my face on the sand.... But I never let go of Zak and he stopped running when he realised one... I was on the ground and two.. that I still had hold of him. Needless to say I didn't want to eat more sand so I chanced it and let him off lead and he did the EXACT opposite to what I thought he might do. He played wonderfully with the other dogs and came back when called (amazing..... his recall is bad on a good day). Since then anytime we went to the beach we muzzled the dugs and let them all off lead and their behaviour was exceptional. Zak even ate through his long lead when back at the cottage for walkies but instead of running after the sheep which he took a lot of interest in, he ran off to eat sheep poo instead. He has such lovely habbits don't you think? All the dogs are now zonked and definitely need a holiday to get over this one. I have a load of piccies to post so keep watching this space..... NO there isn't one of me flat on my face !!!
Cheers Katrina p.s. Zak liked poking his head thru the railings on the ship to see where he was going (don't worry there was no way he could have fallen overboard) and all the dogs got loads of cuddles from the passengers. The dogs also got recognised when we went into a pub on our last day by a stranger asking "weren't you on the beach the other day?" Mind you there are not too many greyhounds on Islay !!!!!
LOL Katrina! Sounds like it was a great holiday for all of you! Looking forward to seeing all your photies. Pity about the one you missed of you flat on your face in the sand! I wish I'd seen that. I can almost see Zak's grin!
Super photos, Katrina! What a wonderful time all the dogs had! And humans too, of course. The first shot of Zak? splashing through the water is superb. And the one of Missy and Zak play bowing to each other - brilliant!
What fantastic photos Katrina. The pooches all looked like they had a ball...and all look soooo sad on the way home! Certainly looks like a fab place to take dogs on holiday to.

Great piccies Katrina, Zak & Missy could be brother and sister. It's great to see Zak now compared to the pathetic speciman I had you pick up from those horrible kennels 9 months ago...nice to see the hounds with their muzzles on to when off lead...
I think the first picture is brilliant of Zak in the water running towards the camera. I wish i could get action shots like that of Millie. Looks like the dogs had a great time
