Sorry we couldn't make it to the walk this month. Thought the weather was going to be too hot for the hounds but soon after making the decision on the basis of being too hot we've had numerous thunderstorms where the grus were jumping left right and centre. Hope that you didn't get any of the storms at Strathy.
Would be nice to see some piccies if anyone took some.
WELL, what a day!!...I logged on here this morning before I set off for the walk and read Amanda's post about the Thunder and Lightening in Edinburgh, HA I thought, nae luck east coasters as I gazed outside at my six hounds all collapsed on the patio under clear blue skies just settling down for another 10 hours of sun bathing and heavy panting.
I was actually worried before I left about getting sun burn and had it not been for the phantom photograph taker (see Glasgow Hot Dog Show thread) I'd have put me shorts on..
So, heading up the M74 towards Glasgow I guess my first clue should have been the dark clouds hovering above Glasgow, now these weren't just Black clouds, this was the type of Black that's SO black to be almost Blue (does that make sense? I ripped it off a Terry Pratchet book) Anyways I digress, I figured it's just a big cloud.
I guess my next clue should have been the cars driving out of Glasgow, why in the middle of the morning did they all need their lights on?..
Undaunted I headed North and got to within 1 mile of the park, thats when I hit the curtain of 'unseasonally wet weather'. This of course is an understatement, it was like some post apocalypse nuclear winter. The darkness, the thunder, the lightening and the rain!
I finally found my way to the park past numerous groups of people frantically building boats and hearding anmals in two by two.
Well, to be honest I really didn't expect many folks to turn up but turn up they slowly did, lots of Greyhounds peering out of the backs of cars with that 'you gotta be joking' look on their faces. The rain finally stopped for about 3 seconds round about half twelve, there was just enough time to take my hood down, then put it quickly back up again.
In summary we all got soaked but in the process raised a very impressive £1104.20 for GAL and there's still more money to come in so this is just a provisional total, I'll post the final total when I have it.
Now for the pictures, for people who are into rain and wet dogs you are in for a treat..
The first few were taken when I arrived, these are really for the benefit of our southern cousins, guys, this is proper Glasgow rain, the type that doesn't just sting when it hits you but attempts to drive itself through whatever layers you have on and attack your skin with a vengeance.
RAIN
MORE RAIN
EVEN MORE RAIN
YUP, YOU GUESSED IT, RAIN
IS IT EASING OFF A BIT?...ERM NO
WHERE IS THE NEAREST LIFEBOAT?

THINKING ABOUT WALKING NOW, HONEST

NICE DAY FOR SHORTS!
ONLY 4 MILES TO GO!

AND THEY ARE BACK!
THATS WAS FUN BUT IF YOU EVER ASK ME TO DO THAT AGAIN I'M GOING TO PEE ON YOUR FAVOURITE PLANT
Hey Dave, we would have been okay with the big boat then - having TWO greys in tow - you on the other had would have been stuffed!!
How stupid are we though - thought the rain had gone off and went to look at the nice big shiney trucks - for all of 30 seconds - three very very wet humas and two very p****d off greyhounds.
Well done all you brave souls who turned up in that rain. a great amount raised.
And yes Dave when i was gazing out my window at 6am this morning and it was blazing sunshine I thought what a great day for a car boot sale . And then the thunder lightning and rain (yes proper rain like in your photos none oh this "spitting" Peter Kay rain ) started and kept comming off and on all morning. I'm amazed my frizzy rain frazzled hair didn't scare people away
So extra well done to all you walkers and brave hounds.
Landess, Sunny and Zoe.

Well done to all you who braved the weather. I wasn't able to get sponsors due to changing jobs, would never have managed to collect the money if I wasn't constantly asking for it on a daily basis like last year.
Right up until the last moment I wasn't sure if I was going as I am ratsitting, and after a night of hell on Saturday - where my rats took huge umbrage to the visiting rats and I got severely bitten 3 times, had no sleep, a splitting headache, a rat confined to another cage to calm him down, one who is petrified to move or eat, one who took ill and an appointment made for castration (for the hormonally charged rat) - I decided I had best stay in!
However, I will sponsor Dave, I'll sort that out when my stress levels go down. Oh, and did I also mention that a parakeet is comimg to stay for 3 weeks on emergency foster care?!
The actual walk wasn't too bad - the rain eased off and it was pretty warm (hence dog coats off) but - had I not been sponsored - it was not a day I would normally have chosen to go all the way round.
I'm amazed at the total amount raised , cos there didn't seem to be that many folk there, and I thought maybe some folk were going to do their walk on another occasion.
well done to everyone who took part and raised that huge amount of money. photos are terrific- it's great to see everyone's hounds, and the peole who i don't know !
ps. Fiona, are you mad??? all that aggro and bird-sitting too !
What a fantastic amount raised and well done to all your brave souls and hounds that went along. The photo,s are great , did you use an underwater camera Dave. Can,t say I noticed Noah there .LOL At least we all suffered the same weather we were down on the beach when it arrived, very soggy. Nora

Noah was there Nora, just not with ark, I had both Dinah & Noah there (appropraite name for Sunday I think) you can see him in some of the piccies at the start of the walk with me (he's the black one) & my wee boy (who is holding Dinah)
Is it just me or is there anyone else out there waiting to hear how Denise and Joyce got on with the padded bra's, lippy and shaking their tins at the truckers????
Well done to everyone, dogs included who braved the typical scottish summer's day.
Well, you see the padding got soggy and anyway Denise said, and I quote "You aint got enough padding!" so there was not much point in traipsing all the way over just to slurp about in mud. But you can be rest assured that there will be investigations on the internet for next year for wet proof padding, just in case we happen to coincide with any truckers!
Well done all those brave souls who made it on Sunday. We decided not to come as Dan was freaking out at the thunder. Sally doesn't have her coat yet either and looks so pathetic when she gets wet it makes us feel very guilty. We will get to a walk sometime though, we're determined!
Great photos Dave! glad to see Rosie,Dad and I in quite a few of them! We still have money to send, but havent collected all of it yet, I think my total is now at £82! (including £76 already handed in) Go me!
Hi Folks, quick update on the Sponsored Walk....The money is still coming in and I've had a number of people who didn't turn up on the day cos of the rain (sensible folk!) but have done the walk in the last few weeks, the current total with more still promised is £1494.20 so thank you all again!
Right, now on to my own participation! I've decided to drag Ivor round the loch at the September 3rd walk, my sponsor sheet goes round my office tomorrow on the back of the recent Greyhound publicity, someone asked me in a meeting today about it and an hour later most of them left with rather horrified looks on their faces so I'm hoping they dig deep tomorrow. Thanks to all your pledges I've already reached £250 but if you would still like to sponsor me then just drop me an email, remember I need to reach the £500 mark in order for my employer to add an additional £500 to my total through their 'Community Cashback' scheme...
Hi Folks, got some more money in so our total has now surpassed the 'grand and a half' mark, still some to come in but it's a real good total so far!
On my own personal collection the nice people in my office have pledged £225 which brings my total so far to £475 - just need another £25 between now and September 3rd!!..
