Just back from a walk and I'm bursting to tell somebody about Sunny tonight. (Steve and the kids are away for the weekend)
You might have read my earlier posts about Sunny having no recall and how her eyes just blank over when off the lead and she responds to nothing. Well I have been really working on her recall for months and to be honest i thought i was getting nowhere. UNTIL TONIGHT
When we get back from a walk i always unclip the dogs leads at the end of the path and they both trot into the flat and up the stairs. Tonight i did the same and off they trotted ahead. So imagin how much my heart sank when I saw the back door of our flat stairs was open and Sunny was nowhere to be seen ( Zoe the little angel was waiting for me). This door is never normally open. Once before a neighbour had opened the door as we were comming in and had helpfully held it open for Sunny to go out , that time she took off through neighbours gardens and we had a worrying 20 mins before finding her in the woods (she had crossed two roads).
So when i stepped into the back garden and she was nowhere to be seen my heart dropped. I shouted on her once and was amazed when she came tearing round from the side garden, but she had that blank look on her face and ran straight by me. I called again and couldn't beleive it when she stopped and turned and trotted up to me wagging her tail. I could have cryed.
I made such a fuss of her that she just looked at me as though to say "whats all the fuss about mum i was comming back".
All that training and treats is at last starting to pay off. And lesson learnt i will check the door is closed before unclipping the leads in future.

I live in hope Jennifer I was thinking that after Sunny watched Zoe getting lots of treats for doing sit and giving a paw, that Sunny would soon catch on and copy her. But no she just looks at me blankly Zoe has taught her to play and made Sunny more affectionate (think shes a bit jealous ) so you never know.

It's great when a breakthrough is made. She will learn from Zoe, bless her. Harry has taught Pearly all sorts of things, from helping with her house-training to the fact that apples are scrummy. It's amazing what they take in, even if we think that they're not really watching.
