I have just bought Cas and Sasha their own toothbrushes. After many a growl and moan trying to clean their teeth with a bog standard toothbrush, I have now purchased the finger toothbrush for dogs and cats made by Hatch Wells it is an excellent little tool, neither of them object to putting my finger in their mouths with the brush on it and the difference in their teeth is amazing. Considering that insurance does not cover teeth I think that paying £1.99 for a finger toothbrush will be worth it. Nora

you are braver than me Nora!! Id rather save the 1.99 & keep my fingers!! Murphy eats toothbrushes & brushing can be a serious task in this house - Maisies not much better either - not sure Im willing to see if a finger brush would be tolerated better or maybe I should just have the car keys to hand for the inevitable trip to casualty..??

There's a paste available which contains enzymes and a mild abrasive to break down plaque without having to brush. It's called Logic Oral Hygiene Gel and should be available via your vet. For those who can't / won't put their fingers in their dog's mouth!
There's also an article on Fragraria on the main website. That's a homeoepathic tablet remedy for breaking down tartar.
FYI: Plaque is the sticky coating on teeth, loaded with bacteria. Tartar is the crispy crunchy build up which happens when you don't get rid of the plaque.
It's once a day for a month and then weekly to keep the tartar away. Esther tried it and it certainly seems to soften it up making the teeth easier to brush clean.
