I don't get this at all. I know that she is advocating kindness and looking after the dogs from the "cradle from the grave" but it is still an industry with too many "failures" and someone else left to pick up the pieces.
This lady is a "one off" if everything stated is accurate.
At the Burghley Horse Trials two years ago I met a lady who raced greyhounds who boasted that non of her ex-racers were cruelly treated as they were all humanely destroyed!!! We live in a sick world.
The only answer to the greyhounds plight is a restricted number of stadiums whereby the numbers retiring each year is manageable but this would have to be coupled with a complete ban on Irish imports, a ban on Spanish exports would also have to be considered on moral grounds. Unfortuneatly I never see much happening in my lifetime.
In the absence of any regulating laws there is only one answer and that is to close all stadiums and the organised betting that go with them, but money will always speak louder although one animal welfare organisation seems to be achieving some success albeit by means not many of us would consider getting involved with.
Does anyone have the answer to the greyhounds plight in this materialistic world in which we live today?
We must continue doing what we can and at the same time enjoy the company of our canine friends and ensure their enjoyment of life as well.
I saw that article too and was concerned that nothing at all was mentioned about GAL or any other organisations. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile writing to the Sunday Herald to raise awareness? Maybe if a few of us bombarded them with letters/emails it would raise interest in the subject and even prompt a further article being written.
I guess last Sunday must have been a slow news day as this article first appeared in a local West Lothian paper about a month ago. I guess bottom line is any publicity about the welfare of retired greyhounds does help GAL indirectly.
