Hi Folks, well, we are well into 'event season' now..are you excited?..
I'm happy to announce that the GAL Summer GALa 2006 will take place on Sunday August 13th at Strathclyde Country Park near Glasgow!..the GALa will run from 11am - 3pm..
So, what have we in store this year? Well if you haven't been before this is our 4th one so where have you been!...This years event is going to be our biggest ever (hence the change in venue from previous years!) The focus of the day will be our dog show where 2 lucky dogs will be crowned GALa King and GALa Queen 2006. In addition we'll have loads of fun for ALL the family, I don't want to give TOO much away before the big day so watch this space for further announcements
And now the usual plea for help and some blatant advertising!....
Blatant Advertising...
We have a small number of pitches still available at this years GALa so here's the deal, if you are a dab hand with any hobbies, do a bit of selling of unusual items, have a thriving business, just generally want to show off some stuff, have friends or family who are in the retail trade or work for another charity you'd like to publicise then GAL will happily offer you a pitch for the day. There will be a minimum donation for each pitch of £10 (but we'll take more!). If you'd like more info on having a pitch please email glenda@gal.org.uk or call 0870 888 7277
Plea for help...
We do need a large number of volunteers to help us out on the day particularly with set up and then clean up, we'll need folks to bring some homeless dogs, some more peeps to sell raffle tickets and some more volunteers to help out at the GAL shop and info stalls. I do know this is the biggest GAL event of the summer and I know how much everyone enjoys just putting their feet up and enjoying the day but without you guys to help out we just couldn't run the GALa....If you'd like to offer your volunteer services for the GALa please email linda@gal.org.uk or call 0870 888 7277
It was a great day last year. Dave, I'm afraid I won't know if I can help out until I find out my new job rota. Would it be ok to let you know nearer the time?
Dont know if Jax has already offered our services for the day, but we should be cool for those days. We are going to bring Dan and Sal along to the Glasgow walk this SUnday so we can have a blether with everyone then (thats providing Sally doesn't eat the car!! Hehe!).
Hello - Linda here to see if anyone is interested in helping out at the GALA. Like Dave stated - we do need quite a bit of help with working the various stalls and such so if ANYONE has an interest - Please send me an email soon at linda@gal.org.uk!
Sorry won,t make the GALa as Derek is working and I am to jittery in the car to drive in places I do not know, but I hope every one has a terrific day the sun shines and lots of money in collected, Have fun. Nora

Has there been a wee leaflet or that designed so I can email it round people in my work?
Thanks Carole
Hi Carole (and everyone else) there's now a flyer for the event in the documents section of this forum, please please please print some off and hang them up EVERYWHERE..
I know there is a train you can get and a station near the M and Ds fun park bit because I've been there by train many years ago. Can't remember how you get in but I think it was a long walk
I'd be glad to offer my services on the day but Steve is away in Fife so I've no way of getting there. If anyone from round my way is going, do you fancy a hitchiker.....?
Sounds like a ton of fun and I hope your event is fab-u-lous!!!
It's a shame I didn't know about The Gala sooner otherwise I could have donated special collars for the "crownings". I don't think they'd arrive in time now :( but please let me know if there's something in the future. I'd be happy to send you something!

Great publicity, Glenda! I hope lots of people come along to see what it's all about and go on to fill in an application form to home a greyhound or lurcher.
Jenn - it would be great to see your 'crowning collars' at a future event! Keep an eye on Fundraising events for 2006 on the main GAL website http://www.theboatcottage.clara.co.uk/gal/main/index.htm to see if there's anything on the horizon you'd be interested in.
If you exit the M74 at J6 the slip road will take you onto a dual carriage way (for Motherwell), head up there to a set of traffic lights, turn LEFT at the lights into the park, take the next left (signposted for the Watersports Centre) travel down the hill and round the corner, you'll see a big building in front of you, thats the Watersports Centre! There's a number of carparks on this road past the Watersports Centre on your RIGHT. You'll see us on the big grass area next to the Watersports Centre!
Travelling from the SOUTH (erm, Carlisle I guess)
Exit the M74 at J6, follow the slip road round to your RIGHT (for Motherwell) you'll get onto a dual carriageway, head up there to a set of traffic lights, turn LEFT at the lights into the park, take the next left (signposted for the Watersports Centre) travel down the hill and round the corner, you'll see a big building in front of you, thats the Watersports Centre! There's a number of carparks on this road past the Watersports Centre on your RIGHT. You'll see us on the big grass area next to the Watersports Centre!
Travelling from the EAST (Edinburgh or anywhere along the M8)
On the M8 take the turn off for the A725 (signposted for Carlisle & M74) Travel down the A725 and you'll finally get to a large roundabout, you can turn LEFT here to enter the park then travel all the way to the other side of hte park, you'll finally get to a RIGHT hand turn signposted for the Watersports Centre, take the RIGHT hand turn and travel down the hill and round the corner, you'll see a big building in front of you, thats the Watersports Centre! There's a number of carparks on this road past the Watersports Centre on your RIGHT. You'll see us on the big grass area next to the Watersports Centre!
Hope all that makes sense, if you haven't got a clue where to go plase email me at david@gal.org.uk NOTE: A couple of poeple have emailed me direct from this forum asking for directions but there's no return email address attached so I don't know who you are so apologies for not replying!...
After my little hiatus, I'm really looking forward to the fact that my first outing will be to the GALa. It's always a fab day out and I'm sure that this year's will top the last two, which have been great.
Looking forward to seeing some familiar and not-so-familiar faces there on Sunday.
Planning on coming down on the train(s) from Dundee with my ten year old and Neo and will be arriving at Motherwell station at 11.09, have spoken to a guy in a taxi firm who seems to think i could walk from the station to the park in about ten minutes....Does anyone know if this is right??
It's going to be a long day of travelling but really don't want to miss it...If anyone else is arriving in Motherwell around the same time and has room for a very small me, a ten year old and a large black hound, would be grateful for the lift so we don't get lost!!
