Okay Folks It's here - I'm pleased to announce GAL's 1st EDINBURGH HOT DOG SHOW!
**Is your dog THE HOTTEST EDINBURGH GAL DOG 2006??.... **Have you got what it takes to catch the judges eye??..... **Can you handle the competition??...... **Have you space on your mantle for a whopping great trophy??..... **This Event is being held on 15th July at Holyrood Park (beside the palace - how regal for such regal hounds)
There will be 8 classes on the day, entry for each class is only £1 and that will be paid on entry to the ring. The classes are as follows -
- MOST HANDSOME SIGHTHOUND DOG - MOST HANDSOME NON-SIGHTHOUND DOG - PRETTIEST SIGHTHOUND BITCH - PRETTIEST NON-SIGHTHOUND BITCH - HAPPIEST FAMILY - BEST VETERAN (7yrs or over) - BEST YOUNGSTER (6yrs or under) - DOG JUDGE WOULD MOST LIKE TO TAKE HOME
As you can see the classes are pretty exciting and the show is open to ALL dogs! The top 3 dogs in each class as picked by the judge will win a rosette with the winner of each class also getting his or her paws on a lovely medal. The winners of each class will also go through to the HOT DOG FINAL with the winner of that walking off with a trophy (and it’s a great trophy - have you seen the photo of ZOLA winner of the Glasgow HOT DOG with his trophy) and bragging rights for the next 12 months to be called not only THE HOTTEST EDINBURGH GAL DOG 2006, but also the 1st EVER EDINBURGH HOTTEST DOG
And now for some other stuff! Remember our ongoing appeals for the Kennel Fund! so please feel free to bring all your old coppers and car boot sale stuff (please let us know in advance if there are any bulk items) on the day and we'll happily take them off your hands! Additionally we've already got great prizes for our raffle (including a great doggie lunch box and an MP3 player) but if you have anything you want to include please bring it along on the day and we'll include it in the draw!
Finally the boring but important information, all dogs must be kept on lead during the show and if your dog needs to wear a muzzle make sure he does
If you able to help out on the day could you please email linda@gal.org.uk. Thank you.
Remember this is the GAL’S 1ST EVER EDINBURGH HOT DOG SHOW and we are looking for a great turn-out on the day. Hope to see as many of you as possible on the 15th!..
We will be there, can't wait And since lying flat out in the ring and refusing to move didn't win her a rossett in the veteran class at Glasgow (mean judge) Zoe is now working on a new trick to catch the judges eye I thought holding a £10 note in her paw might just do it
Hope to see lots of you there.
Landess Sunny and Zoe

Greyhounds are like chocolates, one is just never enough.
There is also a bag packing slot running in tandem with the Hot Dog Show ON PURPOSE due to the fact so many GAL folk will be turning up. Sainsburys is just across the road from the park so theres no excuse for not being able to give a mere 30 minutes to raising money.
All you need to do is send me your name(s) and I'll pick a short slot for you to bag pack - fellow GAL folk will be more than happy to look after your pet for a bit.
Sorry for hijacking your post Siouxsie however you seem to get a lot more views than I do!
All you senior dogs can breath a sigh of relief Blue will not be able to attend as we are on holiday. Finally going to Westwood house that we won on last years auction of promises!
Unfortunately we will be away on the 15th but I would love to enter Rosie into another hot dog show. Is there going to be another show in edinburgh? Im pretty sure Rosie is gorgeous enough to win something!

Hi Laura, this will be GAL's FIRST ever dog show in Edinburgh so it's a bit of an experiment to see if it's successful or not!!...GAL have another 2 dog shows organised for this year, our GALa in August and our Christmas Show in November (both held in Glasgow).
I've noticed recently that most of the posts under our events are folks saying 'sorry we can't come'...lets change it for our first ever Edinburgh HOT DOG SHOW, I only want folks here to post IF THEY ARE COMMING....well, are you???.....
Dan and Sally will definately definately definately be there, come hail, snow or earthquake!! Dan's had his teeth done and stitches out (he had 2 lumps removed) and Sally's heat has finished. I might even consider bathing them again for the event....
Ok here are some other wee details about the Edinburgh HOT DOG SHOW on the 15th July.
We are going to be situated right behind Holyrood Palace near the playing fields and very close to the toilets
Parking is available at the Holyrood Palace car park which is right beside the playing fields or the St Margaret's Car Park (Meadowbank end) is just a short distance down the road.
There will be an ice cream van at the Holyrood Palace Car Park (which will be very handy), and a few of us where talking about what an ideal place it is for having a picnic - so feel free to throw a rug down at your chosen spot and really make a day of it.
What I would like to ask is - if anyone was a dab hand at homebaking and was willing to make some cookies etc and donate them to a good cause then folk on the day could give a donation to GAL in return for some tasty bites. If you are that person, please could you email me and let me know at siouxsie@gal.org.uk
I think I read somewhere that it starts at 10.30am and finishes around 2pm.
We'll be along a little later (I anticipate getting lost in Edinburgh, at least one!) with Morse. Hopefully we'll arrive in time to enter him in the Best Veteran and Most Handsome classes and who knows, maybe he'll find his forever home.

Hi Folks, the 'doors open' at 10am although as it's a public park we'll be hard pressed to find doors.. The first class will start at 10:30 prompt and everything going to time we'll be crowning Edinburgh's Hottest dog at 14:00...
There was a BIG mention of this on Real radio yesterday - heard it on my way home about 5.40 ish - the DJ went on for ages about how it was a charity event for GAL who home ex-racing greyhounds. He also pointed out the weather is suppost to be nice this weekend and advised folk to head down to the event and help out - so hopefully it will increase turn out

That's fantastic news, hopefully we will see loads of people there.

This is courtesy of Steve, using his media contacts. He sent the info to Forth FM too, so fingers crossed that they give us a mention too.
Well the weather forecast is looking good for Saturday.
We are going to be surrounded by beautiful scenery with our even more beautiful hounds, so why not bring the rugs along and settle down with a picnic and have a great day out and as I already, mentioned there is the ice cream van well situated for refreshments.
Evening News and Scotsman carried the story too, so I'm told - hope there's enough ice cream to go round! Pearly and Harry are knacked at the moment in the heat so lots of water for those two tomorrow....and ice cream!
The first Edinburgh Hot Dog show was LOADS of fun!! We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the dogs - sighthounds and non sighthounds alike. And it was fantastic to meet the gorgeous Morse finally, albeit briefly. Another special mention to the most incredible veteran that I've ever seen. I've don't know if he entered the Best Veteran but, at 13.5 years young, Ari is simply splendid. Sorry I didn't catch his mum and dad's names, but your boy is stunning.
Thanks to Siouxsie, Landess, Nicki, Dave and all the other volunteers who worked so hard to provide such a fantastic event. Can't wait to hear how much was raised!
Hi Folks, well I'm all sunburned and completely knackered, all signs of a good event! GAL's first venture into event territory in the East was a complete raging success! Can't believe the turn out today and the weather was just superb!
From the GAL Committee a MASSIVE big thanks to Siouxsie, Landess & Nicki for organising everything and working SO hard today
I had a great time today, managed to put names to lots of faces and it was great to meet up again with so many dogs that have been rehomed in Edinburgh recently, they were all looking just superb.
Another thanks to Dino for lending us a PA at the last minute and saving mine and Siouxsie's voices!
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did! Final total raised was an amazing £922.27 so well done everyone!
And now onto the show, there was so many great dogs of all different shapes and sizes the judge had a really hard time! She really picked a great and well deserved winner though! I'm dead chuffed to announce Edinburgh's Hottest Dog 2006 is (drum roll please....)..MORSE!! Yip, homeless Morse picked up the Best Veteran Category and then went on to take BEST IN SHOW! Big thanks to Jenni & Lea for bringing him along today, he was a big hit with the public and there have already been a couple of enquiries about him!
Here's Morse below looking dead chuffed with himself, I'll post the final results and loads more piccies later...
