sorry to start a new thread but i am changing my pet insurance to M&S as pet plan are so expensive and have a huge excess. I remember reading somewhere on here (im sure) that if you put your dog through as a lurcher rather than a greyhound, it will reduce the cost as its not a pedigree
I have tried a quote for both and right enough it is cheaper as a lurcher, but not sure whether i should be doing that
Can anyone remeber that post about it?

I have just organised insurance for Neo and i also went for M&S but i did state he was a Greyhound because i find that with insurance you need to be careful as it is so easy for them to invalidate it with any excuse!!
There is a massive thread on pet insurance in the health section that i was directed to when i was looking for advice and i found it really helpful reading everyone's experiences.
If he's registered with your vet as a greyhound he will presumably appear on any correspondance between the vet & the insurers as a greyhound, so describing him as a lurcher when you take out the insurance would almost certainly invalidate the policy.
The important thing for the M&S insurance is if your dog is a pedigree or not. So the dog can be a greyhound and not a pedigree. Pedigrees are more expensive as they pay out a cost price if the dog dies which is a lot if you paid £800 for a pedigree dog.

Thanks, this has clarified a lot for me . Im not interested in a huge pay out of anything happened to Millie.

Yes - you're right - gh's are pedigrees. Perhaps they are making a distinction between gh's (pedigree) and pedigrees bred for showing etc. It surprises me though that they can make that distinction - bit subtle for an insurance company, who normally do everything by the rules.
Certainly every insurance I have looked at - gh's fall into the pedigree category.
