Just wanted to share but if anyone has any ideas what the problem might be then please please let me know.
Our small lurcher Dusty has developed a small lump in her cheek about 1inch round. I've had a look in her mouth and have felt along the gum line and the lump is definitely under the skin so it doesn't appear to be an abscess. We have her booked in for the first available appointment which is Wednesday afternoon, at the vets. Dusty is a greyhound, collie cross and is about 6 years old and has been dressed from about 20weeks of age. She also has no history of any lumps before.
I don't know if it's the same sort of thing, but Pearly developed a lump in her cheek a few months after we got her. We noticed that it came up after she'd eaten. Sometimes it was the size of a large brussel sprout! Anyhoo, we took her to the vet who said that it was caused a blocked salivary duct - it was just her saliva, being unable to get into her mouth and so collecting in her cheek. Painless, not harmful, just annoying. Over time it has sorted itself out. The lump still comes up from time to time but not as frequently and not as big as before.
We'll be thinking of you and Dusty tomorrow at the vet.
i can't help with this one either but i was wondering about the terminology "has been dressed from about 20 weeks of age".... what does "dressed" mean?

It's just another way of saying "spayed" or "neutered".
Thanks for all your support. I will update you all when we get back from the vets tomorrow. I'm hoping its only a blocked gland as it acts like FAJ has described. Must admit its a bit worrying until we know for sure.
As for "dressed" is a polite way of saying that she has had her bits removed like JackieD said.
Well poor old Dusty has now been to the vet. The vet would like to do more investigations with perhaps a view to removing the lump. The lump has grown significantly in the last 24hrs. He has ruled out a blocked saliva gland and suspects something with the nimph gland on that side of her face. She is back in tomorrow to be sedated so that the vet can draw fluid if any or take a biopsy (spelling not sure ??). He may well decide to remove the lump while Dusty is still under. So Pet Plan claim for to hand, pen at the ready.... we will all have to wait and see tomorrow. Dusty goes in at 8.30am. Now just a tad more worried for our Dusty. Lets hope its a benine whatever !!! Keep your fingers X'd that its not cancer of the nimph gland (seen that in one of our dogs before..... not nice). Must admit got to think the worst then anything else will be a blessing !
Poor Dusty, really sorry she has to go back in but at least she is getting the right help. You can see the lump quite clearly on the picture but have everything crossed that it turns out to be something simple. You must be really worried, i know i would be.
Best of luck for tomorrow and big hugs to the lovely Dusty, let us know how she gets on.
Hi Just letting you know that this morning at about 8am Dusty's lump burst (20mins before going to the vets). The good news is that the lump IS liquid filled and not a solid mass. Having looked at where this bloody liquid was coming from; it is possible that maybe she has been stung or bitten by something as the hole was very small. As a result of the lump leaking the lump has reduced in size. She will be investigated this morning with a sample being checked and possibly an xray to makesure its only localised. We should hear by 2pm today for before. So Dusty was even more pathetic looking this morning supporting a dressing and blue hairband bandage when she went to the vets. Will keep you all posted as to her progress.
I'm no expert but that does sound like good news, not that Dusty will see it like that right now. Hopefully it bursting means it's now sorting itself out and it's nothing more serious than a bite or a sting, not pleasant for Dusty but not as serious as you were probably beginning to think. We all fear the worst when there is something wrong with them don't we..
Hope all you get today is good news!! Hugs to Dusty, i'm sure she is still gorgeous even with the dressing
Hope the vet visit went well today and its something that will heal soon, and Dusty will be better. Many of us know how worrying these things are, so know how you're feeling. Will look out for updates on how things are.
After all the vets talking yesterday saying its unlikely to be an abscess it turned out to be an abscess! She has a small wound on the side of the face where it burst this morning but her face shape is returning to normal since this wound has been draining all day. She is now on antibiotics, healing cream and painkillers. So lucky escape for Dusty and a bigger escape for my bank balance !!!!
Hopefully she will be back to normal in a few days. Will be back to the vet in a weeks time or thereabouts to see how she is doing.
Thanks again for all your support at this worrying time.
Thank goodness for that, she must have been so uncofortable with the abscess. I remember I had one and my face looked like something out of the planet of the apes. Lots of hugs to Dusty. Nora

As you can see her face isn't as badly swollen as it was before but what you can see is where the abscess erupted but it looks also like the vets have lanced it a bit to help it drain quicker. She's currently getting antibiotics, anti-inflamitary and some cream to keep it from scabbing over too quick.
At least now she's on the mend. I'd hate to think how I would be when the day comes for any of my pooches to be PTS. Was at the vet today getting two dogs vaccinated and a couple went in before me and came out with only a lead and collar. Poor Guys my heart goes out to them.
