Thought I'd better introduce myself. I joined GAL last year but have never posted before. At present I have an Irish ex racer, Lenny, who will be 11 years old on 26th July and a small 20in broken coated 9 year old lurcher bitch called Roise. Rosie is an ex worker who was handed into the Edinburgh Dog Home by her owner as she was no longer wanted. She sports some cracking scars from her past life and I have to admit she's aquired a few more since! I adopted her May 2001 and she loves nothing more than hunting rabbits and squirrels. Lenny is a great old boy. He came from SSPCA in Hamilton through GAL and was adopted Feb 2000. He was picked up off the streets, rehomed then picked up again. Happy chappy with a big grin and still very fit. He's been on heart pills since he was 5 and metacam for his arthritis for last 2 years. He's been through the wars and been stitched up quite a number of times. The biggest thing was when he severed his tendon on his hind leg, just below the hock. He was 6 1/2 and it took 18 months to recover completely. He's got obvious lameness which has become worse during the last year but he's not in pain. He still likes to run and even sometimes at top speed! He'd still no couch potato in is up off the sofa with a click of the fingers! We adopted a beddie/whippet x in January as a playmate for Rosie. Lenny does his best but simply hasn't the same staying power. The girls became very close friends but sadly Lucy was pts on 9th June after a collision with a tree snapped her spine and left her paralysed. We were all devastated. Rosie in particular became very quiet. We needed to start all over again for her sake. It took us a year to find Lucy. Rosie doesn't really like bitches bigger than herself so quite a challenge since she is only 20in. We popped along to Edinburgh Cat & Dog Home on Monday and found a wee girl. She's around 1, rough coated, very sweet, respectful of her elders, playful and overall very nice. She's prob got some GSD in her (huge ears, that kind of markings) but she's the same size as Rosie. They all got along nicely so have reserved her. She gets spayed on Monday and comes home the following Monday. Pity she won't be here for Saturday, which of course I will be going with Lenny and Rosie. Lucy will never be forgotton but this wee girl (Ruby) will help fill the gap. We are confident the girls will become good friends in time. I'm praying Ruby has a little more sense to look where she runs as I don't think I could go through that again.

Yes Jennifer it's dog number 226. So you know who she is then! What mix do you think she is. I think her face is kind of terrier too. She's just such a mix. You think you remember my Rosie? You've some memory considering the amount of hounds that get rehomed. Best way to describe her is border terrier colour/markings. Sitting here this morning at 7.15 wondering if it's going to be too hot today. I hate taking Lenny around in the heat. If I go may only stay for a short while and not bother entering as he's sooooo handsome he may win!!!!
Lovely to read your story and about your hounds. Won't be meeting you as I am way down here in Peterborough but nice to talk on here instead. Hope your two like the newbie when she comes home, look forward to hearing all about there future adventures together.
I work at the Edinburgh Dog and Cat home and I know the wee girl u are talking of. She is such a sweetheart, a bit if a nutter to lol. She was out for a walk yesterday with the dog walker and she kept running and running, so happy to be out. I went into the paddock to see her and she was up giving kisses and basically full of fun.
She is a great dog, and I hope she settles in and enjoys her new life with you and your dogs.
I'm glad Ruby likes to run cos Rosie loves to chase! She does seem very sweet and we are looking forward to welcoming her home. We have superb walks round Bo'ness so there is plenty room for her to let off steam. Keep you all informed when she arrives.
Esther
Sorry, I didn't make the show on Saturday. Didn't think about it till later but I should have went on my own. That used to doing anything doggie with the hounds. Was far too hot for Lenny. He doesn't do well in heat. He has a bad heart and he'll be 11 on the 26th so felt it unfair to put him through heat stress. He much prefers to lay in the shade. I was really looking forward to it. Will just have to try make the GALA day in Glasgow now!
Hi Esther - Morse won the Edinburgh Hottest Dog 2006 and you can see a lovely photo of him and others at the event on the results and winners thread to do with the show in Events.
So sorry you could make the Hot Dog Show but will look out for you at the GALa
