Hi Everyone,

Mick had to have a wee operation to remove a small growth from his  rear right leg. It was growing at a rapid rate. Vet felt it was better to be removed.

The operation went well and he had a neat wound. However due to the lack of skin on the lower leg the stiches were under a bit of pressure.

A couple of stiches gave way, the wound got infected. Result lots of dressings, antibiotics and time required.

Mick was the perfect patient but had to have the wound dressed by myself  for nearly 4 weeks. Had to wear a muzzle when I was out to stop him licking the dressing off. He was not best pleased at the short trips out to the grass rather than longer walk and run.

His wound is all healed now. A wee pink spot of new skin.

Charles

Hi Charles, glad to hear Mickey's leg is better now.     Can be so annoying trying to get them to leave a dressing alone!!   We found the colourful crepey ones that the vets provide that self-stick when wrapped round a leg, are the best ones and still allow a wound to heal up.  I haven't got round to finding out where they can be bought from.

Hi, Lita, if I'm thinking of the same stuff, it's called vetwrap and I buy our supplies from our vet. Failing that, Tesco have some stuff called "elastic bandage" and it's pretty much the same. Or buy online

Vetwrap to buy on-line

I bought a load of these in Lidl a while ago. Just happened to see them when I was there. Don't know if they get them in regularly. They are so good.

So glad Mickey has recovered well from his infection, Charles! I'm sure he'll continue to do well. Hope he enjoys his first run around off lead very soon!

Hi Everyone,

Micks leg has healed well. He has a tiny  pink spot where the wound was.

Yes he enjoys his evening runs. if it's quiet he races Snap.

Mind you Mick was in the 'dog house' shortly after after biting a chunk of skin off Treis back. They managed to get into my dog treat store when I was out. Mick goes ballistic if there is food about and another hound present.  A fight ensued.

Vet decided not to stich the wound so it was  3 weeks of dressings - the wound was about 1.5 inches across. Trei learned to twist his neck and pull the dressing off. He has to be muzzled.

Fortunately the wound did not get infected and is healing well -  A scab has now formed so don't need to dress wound now.  He will probably have a wee baldy bit on his back from now on.

Charles, it's nice to hear that Mick is on the mend and, hopefully, Trei is too.

They are lucky to have you to look after them so well

Hi Charles,

Sorry to hear you have just got Mick better when you have to start all over again with Trei. Little horrors - worse than a load of kids I'm sure!

Lucky they have you to look out for them all!

Take care Em,and Chad xx
