Ra looks and sounds adorable, and it is great that he is starting to settle and come out of his shell. Good luck for his future and hope it is not to long till he finds his forever home. Well done to you. Nora

"YOU OWE IT TO YOUR DOG TO BE WORTHY OF IT,S DEVOTION".
Ra continues to make progress, albeit a bit at a time.
He is beginning to recognise his name which is great, and comes to us in the garden - still much too soon to let a new boy off the lead outside the garden of course.
We get occasional glimpses of the puppy within, but they are very brief and he quickly reverts to his sad, inhibited self.
We are delighted with his progress so far, but he has a long way to go. He is a very confused boy.
Lesley - my heart goes out to the wee scone! What a great day it will be for him - and you, when he lets out the big puppy side to him you know is there but he hides so well. It'll be the best reward ever for you when it happens. You're doing a fantastic job with him so far and I'm looking forward to hearing all the wee bits of progress that he makes!
I am very pleased about that cos he has become very fussy and hardly makes an impression on his breakfast. Better at dinner time, but not the voracious eater you would expect (and which he was for the first couple of days).
Apparently his owner augmented the dogs' food with out of date sandwiches - so I sometimes wonder, as he gazes forlornly at his top quality Arden Grange, whether he is dreaming wistfully of foosty egg mayo!!!!
Awww...... Ra may even be wondering if his new food will make him feel ill, like the out of date sandwiches did, as they must have done at times!! The photos of Ra did not look like a dog fed on bread really. It's really great he's put on this weight now with his Arden Grange.
Oh what a shame getting manky sandwiches with his dinner.
Mind you Vernon opened our pop up bin and dragged a foosty loaf out and ate it while I was out. Then he vomited said foosty loaf over his nice new bed (which thankfuly is fully washable). NICE!
Glad to hear Ra is gaining weight - I sometimes put a slice of brown bread in Harley's dinner when he is not showing much interest. He soon gobbles the food up - seems to love bread more than most things which makes me wonder if he was fed on it before.
I might try that Lorna - although I have observed that he is very good at woofling through his food and picking out anything which remains in a large enough piece.
Bread is something that lots of dogs seem to like. Tara will go and steal bread that has been put out for the birds and loves to be given a bit of toast as a treat. Zak also likes bread and was all for stealing himself a slice of garlic bread last night.
I've just discovered that Ra and Sandy are half brothers, they both have Goals Galore for their Daddy. I wish I could have him, if he's anything like his bro' (once the real Ra comes out of his shell), he'll be a cracker, a right licky cuddle-pup!
Met Ra at the GALa on Sunday and he is really beautiful. I'm sure it won't be long before he realises that it's ok to be a big silly puppy. Certainly didn't take Tigger long although she has quite obviously not been badly done by!
If Sandy and Ra both have Goals Galore as their dad then that makes them half brothers to my Tigger and Daisy (who was also re-homed by GAL but whom sadly I've never met yet). As I said before, we're all just one BIG happy family really.
That is interesting Jackie and Isla - I hope Ra turns out as friendly and relaxed as Sandy. At the moment there is a long way to go - he is friendly enough, but definitely not relaxed. He is making tiny steps of progress though, so we must just be patient.
Ra had his neutering op yesterday and seems pretty much fine today which is great.
He also had his teeth cleaned and - as he was limping on his right front - one pad examined which turned out to have some grit in it (must have had a cut previously).
Otherwise his progress continues very slowly. I was disappointed to discover yesterday that he hasn't gained any more weight - he needs to gain about 4 or 5 kgs. This morning I gave him extra breakfast, but he has a fairly finite appetite and didn't eat the extra (to Suzie's delight as she was allowed to finish it) so weight gain is going to take time (if only I had the same problem).
He definitely knows his name now and responds well to us in the house, but he doesn't like leaving the house for either walks or trips in the car. He walks better on the lead than he did at the start but doesn't enjoy walks yet - just puts up with them.
So - nothing dramatic to report - but small steps forward.
Ra is continuing to make progress, but it is very slow - one tiny step at a time. Sometimes it is one step forward and three quarters of a step back again - which is why I have not had much to report.
But you can tell Sandy that Ra is eating better (although bones still showing) and is a bit livelier (sometimes) in the garden: when he runs his legs are all over the place, but if he can ever get co-ordinated he will give Sim a run for his money (which Sim would just love). At the moment Sim's attempts to get him to play just confuse Ra and he stands still.
His woolly coat is coming out and he is gradually changing colour - from fluffy blonde to a richer reddish colour - but it does seem to be taking a long time - amazing if you saw how much I brush out of him daily - how can there be any old coat left???
Other bits of progress are harder to describe - e.g. until recently he didn't like coming to the front door because it meant going for a walk or going in the car (the back door is fine because it means going in the garden) - but now he comes happily to the front door when we are going out (although he would still prefer not to go in the car, but he can be persuaded to jump/step in which he wouldn't do till the last couple of weeks).
We still have to use the indoor kennel at night, but are keeping our fingers crossed that he will get better at 'holding on'.
Bless his little heart - he's so lucky to have you looking after him, Lesley. If I was a scared and confused little lad I can't think of any place better to be. It's great to hear of the progress he's making, albeit slow.
Hi, sounds like you are doing a really good job with Ra and making good progress, even if it is just little steps at a time, soon all the little steps add up to big ones.
well done Lesley your doing a Grand job and such a great dog,i,m sure every day will have it,s challenges but small steps bring great rewards.Well done again look forward to hearing his progress

It sounds like Ra is doing ra-ther well! I am pleased he is gaining in trust and confidence it must take alot of patience on your part so well done, Em xx
Over the last couple of weeks Ra's progress has become more noticeable. I have been able to let him off the lead in the park - at first he stuck to my leg as if he were still on the lead, but has been becoming more adventurous and having a little play which is sweet to watch. His recall is very good at the moment, but I remain aware that as he becomes more confident and curious that may change.
He still has a long way to go, both emotionally and physically, but he is such a sweetie that we have decided we can't bear to think of him going elsewhere - so he is staying with us.
That is fantastic Lesley It's really good to hear that he is still progressing and i'm sure not having to move around again will save his confidence being set back, Well done you!!
Can we have some pics of the newly adopted Ra now??
Thats fantastic news Lesley, i am so happy for you all. You have done such a good job with him so far and i am sure he will continue to flourish with you. So happy he has his forever home
