I like the way it boasts about the fact your details aren't given until the dog is sold. So folk end up with a dog that wasn't as advertised and then dump it 2 months later??
Here is the contact email auctioneer@greyhoundauctions.com Don't think emailing is going to stop it but its not till the 26th of this month so maybe email your MP?? Why didn't the animal welfare bill do something about this kind of thing.
Ok so KableJunction the company that own the site are an internet trading company, media company and design firm.... So obviously experts in animal welfare!
Greyhound auctions are very common especially in Ireland. A lot of the irish greyhounds that are past their best as racers get auctioned off to spanish buyers who transport them by ferry without food or water in a cramped transporter. This isn't illegal as greyhounds are not considered a domestic animal or a food source but a commercial animal, therefore excempt from rules and regs. Then they race them in bad conditions with no vet care until they are injured and cannot run anymore. Then you can guess what they do with them. Many scottish and english trainers attend the auctions and a lot of the greyhounds raced in this country are irish as we know. The NGRC have advice on auction buying on their web pages so its not frowned upon in the 'sport'. NGRC AUCTION GUIDE
These auctions are relatively common and a fair bit of money changes hands for some of these dogs. As with elsewhere in the "sport" it's the dogs who do not live up to expectations that will suffer and the fate of the ones shipped abroad doesn't bare thinking about!!
Wouldn't we all just love to bid for them all and bring them home to a secure, safe future.
I find this to be very disturbing. As much as we'd like to bid and bring home these greyhounds, I think it just encourages it to continue happening. Same thing as buying a puppy from a pet store (here in Canada and the US at least) - all it does in the end is support the puppy mills. It's very sad.

This is horrific! I've only just seen this thread and it makes me so angry! I suppose it stands to reason if they auction off race horses then greyhounds are fair game but the fate of these poor animals is so uncertain. As mentioned, the conditions that these poor dogs find themselves in just do not bear thinking about.
I've just come back from a week in Tenerife and was devastated to see three pickups with metal cages on the back with greyhounds crammed in them. The poor animals were hot, panting and looked thoroughly miserable. I was tearful for hours after seeing it. Graeme was getting very worried - thought I was going to dig my heels in and either come home with three crates of greyhounds as a souvenir or set up a spanish branch of GAL!
Oh for vast pot loads of money and an area the size of the Cowal peninsula so that I could rehome them all and let them run and enjoy life!
