Morning Greet
Permalink Closed

I don't know what has happened but previously (when we had two greyhounds) we used to get knocked down in the morning as they were soooo pleased to see us.... now Chad just looks at you - if he is not desperate to go out he doesn't even bother with getting up! I think they used to compete for my attention and that is why he has changed.

He is definately not a morning dog at all and will sleep on his bed only changing rooms if I have to work in the office  -he will follow me but still sleeps until about 11 or 12. Later on he gets excitable and at walk time tells me its time to go (jumping up at his lead on the hook) he then follows me about for the rest of the day even coming in and out to peg out the washing/put rubbish in the bin - He becomes like superglue!

It is strange because after his walks you would expect him to want a rest but he usually only rests for ten minutes or so before he is pestering for attention again.I just wondered if other people get a morning greet (and how many dogs this involves) and whether your dogs are lazy in the mornings or if they are following you about.

Em and Chad xx

Emma, Neo kind of does the lazy and excitable bit.

I get up really early with the baby who refuses to sleep much past 5.30am, and when i first get up Neo lifts his head and gives me the "it's too early" look then goes back to sleep on his bed in my room. After i've been downstairs for a couple of hours he suddenly comes to life, bounds down the stairs and gets really excited. Once he has had a fuss made of him he lies down on his bed in the lounge but watches me constantly and jumps up as soon as i move out the room, tail wagging frantically and lookng at his lead. It's like he has an inbuilt alarm clock that tells him it's 7.30am so it must be walkies!!

As soon as i bring him back though, it's straight back to bed.

First thing in the morning, Harry will come to see me and he'll wag his tail and lean-in for a cuddle. Pearly can't be arsed to get out of her bed, though she'll happily roll over to have her tummy tickled when I approach her. Cheeky little beggar.

It's a different matter altogether when we get home after work. They're both very excited and they'll bark and throw their bedding around and chase each other.

Neither Dave nor Daisy do the excitable bit.  In the mornings, I have to poke them to get up so that I can go out to work.  Dave manages to open one eye to look at me but doesn't move much further than that.  When he eventually swaps our bed for his downstairs one, Daisy gets up on our bed, then I have to shove her to get off and go downstairs.

When we come home from work, they both come to see us and look a little bit excited but they calm down within about 30 seconds and claim their places on the sofa.

I'm not sure whether to be grateful that they're so calm or insulted that they don't want to be with me all the time

I have a bit of both to be honest.  Anytime between 5am and 7am, we get Tigger sneaking up for a cuddle.  She creeps up the middle of the bed until her head is on the pillow next to you and then promptly flakes out again.  She'll then lie there happily until she hears the back door opening.  Once she's out, she goes mental.  We usually have five or six full speed laps of the garden and a few mad dashes in and out the house in between.  If anyone moves and she thinks there's food or a walk involved, she's there will bells on.  Wednesday nights (sailing night) are a nighmare - she seems to know and trampolines on the bed while I'm trying to get changed and grabs my jumper or whatever and kills it.  She's also got a bit of a thing for my foulies!

Wills is often quite sharp in the morning but I think that's the diabetes because by morning he's usually starting to get desperate.  He'll then happily sleep most of the day, only showing enthusiasm for food and walks.

Millie is just bone idle.  It's a struggle to get her out her bed at any time of the day.  Even when we're about to go for a walk, you can't rush her.  She's got to stretch, yawn, stretch some more and have a good look around.  The only time she gets whiny and demanding is around 8.30 - 9pm when they get a tripe stick!

Wouldn't change any of em though for all their little quirks!!!

This sounds like Millie too

Bonnie sleeps under our bed until she hears conversation or purposeful movement - then she slinks up onto the bed with smiles and wags. Usually I get the first big hello as I'm more responsive in the mornings than Martin.

Piper sleeps with one of my daughters; initially she merely wagged and waited patiently for some cuddles when let out, but now she jumps at me, kicks me, licks me, makes a great big fuss for ages. While she does that, Bonnie usually 'raouls' at her, which is half welcome and half resentment! Then Piper usually leaps on the bed to kick Martin where it hurts...

Homecoming we also get big big hellos; Bonnie brings us toys (but doesn't hand them over) while Piper mainly jumps, leaps and farts.

Belle's the opposite, she's not an evening person.  9.30 every night she comes and stares at us.  Then we know she wants the kitchen light put out so she can go to sleep.  And we immediately attend to her wishes, as we've been trained to.

Love it.  I've never heard of a dog that has trained their humans to put lights out for them before!

Tilly always does exactly the same in the morning. As soon as one of us goes downstairs to the kitchen where she sleeps, she gets off her bed and peeps round the kitchen door, has a big stretch (so much so that the room vibrates) and comes to say hello. Probably the only reason for this is that nine times out of ten she comes upstairs to our bed for cuddles. How soft are we?

She's very good at night too. As soon as we say "time for bed" she takes herself off to the kitchen (once she's woken up from her secondary bed in the lounge, that is!)
