I wonder if anyone can offer some advice...Dan has developed a dirty, stained face, just on his cheeks and round about his lips. I've tried cleaning it but it seems to be getting worse. When he first arrived to live with us his face was pure white, not a trace of stain in sight so I'm thinking it might be something to do with having had 5 teeth out. We feed him Arden Grange which is quite dark and might cause some staining.
Dan (and Sally) not long after he came to live with us.
Dan now (dirty face worse than it looks!)
Anyone got ideas on how to keep him clean and handsome?
Hi Jax, can't really offer any advice, all I can add is another piccie of a dog with dirty chops!
My Ivor is the same, white dog with lack of teeth has a lovely dirty face, it does come off when he's washed (after a bit of a soak - I leave the suds on there and do the rest of him then go back to it) I have found myself picking and rubbing at the dirt in idle moments but that doesn't really do any good!....
Angus has diry bits round his face also. The vet say that in Angus' case its because his teeth are needing cleaned and because of this he is drooling. So it could be Dan's drooling because of the teeth that are missing.
I wipe Pearly's chops with fragrance-free-for-sensitive-skin baby wipes from time to time. She's still a bit stained round her lips but they do clean up actual muck.
Vernon's face is the same, as is Ziggy's although less noticeable. I pick it off sometimes (love pickin at things me) and give it a rub with a facecloth but it comes back. Just food debris and stains I guess.
How soft am I ... Chad has his face washed every week to keep him looking beautiful and kissable! He gets the same chops as the others, I get a little doggie shampoo on a cloth or sponge and have a good scrub, it is so bad it leaves chunks on the cloth (uck). To be honest he accepts it and I think this is why he looked so beautifully clean in the kennels - they did it too. I then rinse and finally dry with kitchen roll.
