Vaccination Allergy

Hi Folks

Has anyone experienced their dog to have a severe reaction to vaccinations? Ruby, my newest addition has had a terrible time. She had to go through he puppy vaccs and the first one took her about a week to recover from. Sickness and diarrhoea the first night (in the house) and diarrhoea the whole week. She was fasted then the usual chicken and rice and everytime I added a little normal food it made her worse. Finally back on track then the 2nd vacc and all over again. Wasn't sure with the 1st one as I'd given them scrambled eggs with a tiny amount of milk and thought maybe she had a severe milk allergy. However, we got our confirmation this obvioulsy wasn't the case. Even worse though. By day 6 she seemed to improve but day 7 just awful, like water. Fasted her again and she's had 3 doses of cakicur and so far so good. She's a funny girl. She likes privacy and tends to go away in the woods for a pee and a poo. Drawback is I actually haven't saw her do a poo since Thursday! Maybe I've constapated her. The other drawback is pooper scooping. I like to clean up after the hounds but this is impossible. And no, walking her on a lead wouldn't work. She's strange in that she just goes for one pee and one poo (latter a maybe) during her whole walk. We are now on day 12 since her vacc and I'm now adding some of her own food to the chicken and rice. She's not had an accident in the house for a number of days now so looking promising. She was ill when she was spayed and I can't help thinking she probably has a sensitivity towards the anesthetic as well. Next time I'm picking up Lenny's heart pills I'm going to ask the vet about a herbal vaccination. My local pet shop (she used to work in a vets) mentioned something. Anyone else heard of this? At least it's only once a year but now I know she'll not get fed on the day her vacc is due.

Thanks guys. I've heard of this problem Ruby has but have never experienced it. She's on sensitive food but I understand this has only come about after she was spayed. She used to be able to eat regular.

Cannot give any medical advice, sorry she has had such a bad time with the vacinations. I am sure your vet will be able to sort something out for her. Nora

If she is insured you might want to check with your insurance company about this, they may not consider it to be a proper vaccination and might use it to duck out of any future claim.

Never thought of that one. Have a while to see what other options there are but yes she is insured (wouldn't be without!) so will check this out.

She's doing better. Managed to see her poo and big improvement. Almost on normal food.
