Neo was at the vet today getting his leg checked and i also wanted to check about the hair loss he has been getting on his face and legs.

According to the vet it is Berry Bug, which i have no experience of. it seems they die off at the first frost but can cause severe itching and inflamed skin in dogs. She advised me to wash his feet with tea tree shampoo as the bugs don't like it and bath him with it as well to try to wash them out

Has anyone any experience of this, i'd appreciate any comments.

Thanks

Never heard of Berry Bug, but wee Gems is always getting grass mites in her paws. At least you know what it is and hopefully it'll clear up soon.

Deary me - the poor wee soul isn't having much luck is he?  I really hope that things start going his way again.  At least he's in the right place and will get all the care and attention that he needs!  Give Neo a hug from all of us here in Dunoon.

Haven't experienced it with Tilly or our previous lurcher Eeyore but years ago my parents cavalier king charles spaniel used to get loads of berry bug bites in on his paws and he used to go crazy biting at his feet.  Probably bathing them in tea tree would help soothe them.

Our cat, Cisco, suffered badly from berry bugs last summer. They're tiny red insects - little more than dots - which can cause nasty rashes, irritation, and loss of fur. The vet advised us to use a flea spray, which seemed to shift them pretty quickly.

Hope Neo feels better soon.

Cheers, Graham

Thanks for that Graham, had been thinking about trying a flea spray but i'm assuming i would have to wait until i was due to flea treat him again. I use frontline spot on and he is not due another treatment for 2 weeks. I did think about just using one of the pet shop over the counter flea sprays as i thought it might be strong enough to kill of the berry bugs but if i had to use it instead of frontline then i wouldn't trust it to keep him flea free So i have been in a bit of a dilemma!!

He is about to get another bath with the tea tree shampoo today so i won't be popular...
