Where do I start..... Richard took George and Maia out for a walk two weeks ago on Tuesday (we were due to leave for our holiday in the early hours of that Thursday). He came back and shouted upstairs that George had cut his leg and could I come down and see to him. Now, George & Maia are always getting cuts and scrapes from chasing each other around and it usually means a bit of cotton wool and some saline solution. When we had a proper look at George though, I nearly passed out. Somehow he had stumbled and literally ripped a patch of skin off the inside top of his front leg. It was about two inches square, ragged around the edges with the bone exposed! Richard didn't see what happened, apparently George was running, stumbled, yelped, then carried on and it was only when Richard noticed George's leg bleeding, he realised something was wrong. A quick phone call to the pet A & E at Kinning Park and we were there within half an hour. George was remarkably fine about the whole thing. He didn't even seem in that much pain. He needed an anaesthetic and stitches and the worst bit was us leaving him on his own and taking Maia away. Two hours later we went back and picked up a very drowsy but OK George. He was covered in other minor cuts and scratches that we hadn't even noticed before and reckon there must have been barbed wire or something, but we walk them at the woods around Greenbank garden which is usually very safe for the dogs. Luckily my sister had was coming up to stay in the house and dog sit while we were away. We got home about midnight updated her on the situation and tried to do a bit of last minute packing. We both had to go to work early the next day because we were finishing up for two weeks. Luckily I managed to get away after lunchtime and take George to the vets for a check up and get his antibiotics etc. Anyway, George is now fine. My sister did have some bother with him i.e peeing and pooing in the house while we were away, but I think the poor boy was so confused with the accident, trips to the vet, being separated from Maia several times, Richard and I being away and then a stranger looking after them in the house. We got back yesterday and he seems fine now. The wound has healed really well although I expect he will have a few scars. Despite all the drama we managed to have a great holiday. We missed the dogs so much though and there were lots of texts and picture texts from my sister to keep us updated. So apart from being £350 down (yes... ouch!) we are now all getting back to normal. Bloomin' dogs eh? Christianne
Poor George, glad to hear he is on the mend, sounds like he was a bit upset with his pooing/peeing, I think that's how they show their stress/confusion at times.
