For all you folks out there who like good music, good food, a wee bevvy and some good old Scottish Dancing then this is just the night for you.
GAL are holding a Ceilidh on Friday 3rd November at 7.30pm, the venue is Langside College, 50 Prospecthill Road, Glasgow, G42 9AH.
Dancing to the brilliant Ceilidh band 'Cauld Bums', with a delicious buffy supper included all you have to do is bring yer ain bevvy.
Tickets are a very cheap £10 each, to order tickets please drop me an email - denise@gal.org.uk. See you there!
Denise
P.S. Men in kilts will be very, very welcome.
P.P.S I won't be dancing because at the last Ceilidh I attended a very nice man told me I danced like a penguin I'll be having a great time drinking, eating and watching all those lovely men in their lovely kilts.
Well now, all of you at the walk today will have got your hands on a couple of posters for the Ceilidh. It would be wonderful if we could make this the event of the year! So let's all get behind this fund raiser. Denise,Linda and I will be working very hard over the next few weeks. Putting posters all over the place. I spent 4 hours in Pollockshaws Road yesterday and not only got a lot of posters up, but managed to get quite a few decent raffle prizes too! (not to mention the aching feet)
Here are just a few of the prizes I managed to get:2 xTables for 10 people at the Curry Karaoke, in Glasgow, 1.5 litre bottle of Bollinger Champagne,A beautiful gold heart necklace set with a real diamond!!Fresh flower arrangement, Meal for 2 at restuarant in Minard Road,Token for £15 towards a meal at Battlefield Rest,Hairdresser token for a cut and blow dry,Manicure............
Am I tempting you? Remember that the evening depends on all of you to support it to be a success! If we all get behind this I can promise you that the band will be first class, the piper will blow his kilt aff and the buffet will be delicious! Oh and I will badger everyone to buy raffle tickets!
Even if a ceilidh is not your "thing", buy a ticket, come along and sit and tap your toes, or just have a blether about your dogs with like minded people.
So far requests for tickets for the Ceilidh has been disappointing.
Remember Denise, Linda and I are doing this to raise funds for the dogs that we all feel passionate about, and if there is a lack of ticket sales then a golden opportunity to raise money for the Kennel Fund will be lost. Not to mention a reluctance on my part at least to organise anything in the future.
The three mustakeers are working very hard to make this Ceilidh a success. Linda has managed to get a world class ceilidh band to play for nothing! And of course Boaby the piper is not taking a penny either- in fact he and his wife will be buying tickets! Denise has the hall organised for the price of the jannies! I have begged and very nearly humiliated myself to get the raffle prizes and contributions towards the buffet. I've arranged a day off work, which I will spend in my kitchen preparing the sandwiches for the event. (Linda will make her wonderful carrot cake as well as other delicacies!!)
PLEASE COME ALONG WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND SUPPORT US!
Well I do hope that Joyce's plea has melted a few hearts and ... pockets?? We will have tickets available at the night - as long as we aren't mobbed (which would be nice) so if you want to come at the last minute - PLEASE DO!
I believe we have to be wrapping up by 12 midnight - not sure if the hall turns into a pumkin - so hope that helps with plans.
Well I now have 11 confirmed people including Graham and Myself, 2 more possible (said they want to go but no money yet). So I will be sending off a cheque to Joyce today for the confirmed ones.
Is anyone else from the Edinburgh area planning to go along? If I get many more we will be struggling to get them all home again. If Edinburgh people are going along and have a bit of spare car space please let me know.
We've just managed to arrange a dogsitter so will be coming along with a couple of friends, maybe more if we can arrange it. Due to the problem of gathering money from said friends however we'll just pay on the night if that's ok.
Hello and looking forward to the folk from Edinburgh - yes you can pay at the door.
I have had a few people ask if there are any B&B's/hotels near by and have found 2 that are within 5 minutes walking distance. I am hoping to get some info on Tuesday to see pricing, discounts, etc. so if anyone is interested let me know. I want everyone to enjoy the night!
I'm really sorry that i am going to miss this...just too much going on at the moment. Hope you all have a fantastic night and i can't wait to see the photo's
Afraid I wont be able to make it. Ill be nightshift taking calls from all the little darlings that like to set fireworks off in peoples houses and light all the bonfires 2 days early!
Joyce and Organising team Can I thank you all on behalf of the LEWIS table for a great night. The turnout was fab, the coin bowling gripping and the music fantastic. Here is a pic of the drunken rabble.
I HAVE GREAT PLEASURE IN ANNOUNCING THAT THE TOTAL RAISED ON FRIDAY EVENING AT THE CEILIDH WAS
£1450
Linda & I would like to thank all those who supported this event. It was a great night resulting in lots of cash being raised for the Kennel Fund.
A big thanks to "Cauld Bums" for giving us their time free! Also to Langside College for free use of the hall. All the money raised has gone to the Kennel Fund.
I will post pictures from the event when I have some assistance from my son, as I'm technologically challenged on this one.
Wow, what a fantastic amount. Congratulations to everyone who helped raise such a fantastic amount, especially the people who put in all the hard work and organised it!
Fantastic amount raised...a HUGE well done to the organisers and i hope that seeing just how much the Kennel fund has benifitted makes all the sleepless nights and headaches you must have had worrying about it's success worthwhile...
A great event and i'm sorry i missed it as it seems everyone really had a great time
The Ceilidh was just brilliant and what a pair of ladies we have in Joyce and Linda who did an incredible job of organising the whole event. Well done ladies you did GAL proud. Thanks too to all of you who came along and made it a roaring success.
I got a wonderful surprise when two of my sisters and their respective hubbies and kids drove up from Yorkshire especially to attend the Kiddley (Yorkshire translation for Ceilidh). Obviously that made it extra, extra special for me.
I now know how to dance the Dashing White Sergeant, the Gay Gordon and the Flying Scotsman however when it came to Stripping the Willow I chickened out completely.
Thanks to Jenny who covered for me at Bothwell the following morning, I arrived just after lunchtime hopefully looking better than I felt.
Now I know what I'm doing, bring on the next Kiddley I'll be well ready for it.
