We have just got back from a lovely/terrible holiday on a friends farm up north. Cory and Maverick had a lovely time being able to run around with our friends dogs as you all know its beautiful watching the hounds run. But it all went so horribly wrong for poor wee Cory on Sunday. She spotted a rabbit, and tore off up the field chasing it at full speed. At the top of the field there was a four foot fence with the top wire being barbed. The rabbit went under and Cory tried to jump it. She s not a big girl and didnt clear the barb. She ended up with multiple lacerations to her leg and a tear down her sternum. We rushed her to the PDSA who did a wonderful job of stitching her tummy and leg. Just over £500 of work so you can imagine how bad it was. She s at the vets today to get her dressings changed. The vet told us a Lurcher had done the same thing recently and ended up having to be castrated. I know we are all careful when our hounds are running around please be extra vigilant, I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.
Poor cory, and poor you. What a fright you must have got. Glad the vets managed to stitch her up well, fingers crossed everything heals ok. Keep us updated on her progress.
Jane

What a shame. Its horrible when things like that happen. At least she was doing what she loved most when it happened (not that that makes it any better ). Hope she heals quickly and is as pain free as possible. Don't think it'll put her off chasing rabbits though

That's horrible - poor wee lamb! Hope she's feeling a lot better soon. I hate barb wire and am always terrifed if any of mine go near a fence just in case.
Poor Cory. She was having such a fab time as well. Lenny and Rosie have been stitched up more times than I can remember. They heel so well and quickly. A couple of years ago they went through an accident prone period and clocked up just over 1,300 between them in just 6 months! Thank Goodness for insurance!! It's a pity dogs don't understand the concept of barbed wire. Still we can't wrap them up in cotton wool. She'll be good as new in no time.

Ahh insurance! One of those things you are always going to sort out tomorrow.
I wouldn't be without my insurance cause you just never know. If they need to stay on a lead then not so urgent I suppose but if you've got a 40 mph hound racing about you need it!
What a nightmare for Cory. Hoping she feels better soon.
Barbed wire is very nasty. One of my lurchers (many years ago), ran into some that had been dumped in a field and the mess was horrendous, and as you did, we got her to our vets immediately and after a time she was back to her usual self.
