Since we've had Tom, Daisy has decided that she would prefer to wee on her bed or on the carpet !

It's invariably in the mornings - after Neil leaves for work and before I get up and it's usually when it's raining - she hates going out in the rain.

So far, both donut beds have been ditched and I've washed the duvet beds numerous times.  It is now getting annoying.  This morning, I was in the lounge (the back door opens directly from the lounge to the garden) and both boys had done their toilet like good lads.  Daisy looked at the garden thru the doorway and turned round because it was pouring hard.  The next thing I know, she's peed on her bed (grrrr)

I have caught her in the act a couple of times so she knows full well that it's a bad thing to do but I don't know where to go from here.

She doesn't get any less attention now than before Tom arrived and I'm very careful to give them all equal amounts of attention.

Any suggestions from you guys?

Sorry Tree no advice really. I seem to remember Pearly was a great one for peeing on her bed. Maybe Fiona will be able to give you some advice when she is back.

Blue went through a phase of it but only when he was left alone and it sorted itself out.

just when I thought we were getting somewhere, Daisy takes a step backwards.

she hadn't peed on her bed for over a week.  however, today, she has done it twice!!!!!  the first time in the lounge even tho the back door was open (the back door opens directly from the lounge) and the second time was in the hall, straight after her dinner - again the back door was open.

Tom wasn't near her on either occasion, so I don't think she's scared of him but she certainly doesn't like going out in the rain.

i'm at a complete loss about what to do now.

Teresa,

         What a nightmare,

and it takes so much time keep cleaning it all up I know. I read somewhere that when they toilet in the wrong place you should throw the wet thing (in your case the bed) outside and put the dog out with it. I used to do this with Charlie as he used to wee in the house when we first got him. I then left him there until he performed and then gave him praise and a treat.Tiger weed a couple of times in the house (up furniture) and I sprayed his bum with a plant-sprayer (as he was doing it) then put him out. He learned on his first lesson as he hated getting wet too.Might be worth a try (maybe it is something to do with Tom maybe not) hopefully whatever it is it will pass.

Thanks for all your advise re my troubles will keep you posted but he peeled the veg for dinner today!

Em xxx

Hmmm, sounds like you're having real fun!

Really the only thing I can remember about house-training is that if you catch the dog doing it in front of you, not to tell them off otherwise they get scared to go in front of you and start "going" in hidden places (behind the sofa, etc) and you'll start wondering where the strange smell is coming from! Could be a sort of attention seeking thing, so as someone else put, if you catch them going, quickly whisk them outside and wait til they "go" where you want them to. Then lots and lots of praise, giving them the attention they crave.

Good luck!

Oh, one other thing I've just remembered - if they keep going on the same patch of carpet or on the same bed, it could be because they can smell where they've "been" before. Unfortunately a lot of carpet cleaners contain amonia, which has a similar smell (especially if you're a dog with ultra-sensitive sense of smell) and often the best thing to use is diluted non-biological washing powder, which doesn't contain it and eliminates the smell. (Please don't hold me responsible if this ruins your shag-pile though!).

How's Daisy now? Has she stopped weeing in her bed? Hopefully she's accepted Tom better and is back to normal
Tom looks very similar to Millie's brother - Jamie on the homeless dog pages

Thanks for asking.

Daisy seems to be ok if I get up when Neil leaves for work. I watch her like a hawk and, invariably, she goes into the garden for a wee. Neil gives each dog a chew stick as he's leaving and this seems to be the trigger for her. If she doesn't go out voluntarily, I put her on the lead and we go out together - leaving the boys indoors.

She's definitely intimidated by Tom but there's not a lot I can do about that !!

Tom is the spitting image of Jamie !

Hi Teresa

I read somewhere that this can be a marking thing - perhaps with the new arrival she is marking out her territory?

Just a thought - I'm no expert but it might be the reason.
