I wondered if Sussex Police were aware of the caliber of people they employ, so have used the "contact us" form on their website to ask (in a very moderate fashion)...be interesting to see if they reply.
It's beyond belief that two people can claim to be too ill/too busy to feed a dog. I assume the owners didn't weigh 1/2 their recommended weight then the RSPCA came to call?? I can appreciate one being ill, but the other was "busy working"??? At the very least they could have made other arrangements if unable to care for their pet.
"Laurent had been ill while Hoare had been busy working" - ah right, well that makes it all right then - NOT!!!!!!!!!
What kind of people can use that as an excuse! Strangely enough, I'm busy working, 9 - 5, Monday to Friday but I still manage to find time to walk my dogs three times a day and feed them twice a day, not to mention spending time with them, dealing with any health problems like diabetes and the injections that it requires. Graeme is away for a week or a fortnight at a time but they don't get neglected because he's "busy working"!
Come on - should police officers (if not everyone) not know better than this! There is no excuse that can justify the state that poor animal was in.
She should be sacked from her job as a policewoman. My hubby is a policeman. They are supposed to be pillars of the community and set a good example.
Hubby thinks that, if not sacked, she will definately be disciplined over this. The Police force don't like this kind of publicity, so hopefully something will be done about them. Does not help the poor dog now, does it! Hope it gets a good, loving and decent home now, which it deserves.
Another case of blatant neglect using illness and work as an excuse. There is no excuse for the condition of that dog it was down right uncaring owners who did not give a damn. They deserve everthing they get. Nora

I e-mailed Sussex Police regarding this article and received an almost instantaneous reply stating that she couldn't be found on their database! However, the next day they informed me that the BBC report was incorrect and she is an officer for Surrey Police. They forwarded their address to me - I await a reply from Surrey!
