As an inexperienced greyhound owner can anyone advise me about nasal issues? Last night Mason was sniffing hard as though trying to clear his nose of something as well as sneezing and since he spends a great deal of time with it stuck in grass, leaves, hedges etc, I don't know if he has snorted something irritating up there or has a cold. It doesn't seem to be bothering him but I don't know whether to wait and let it sort itself out or take him to the vet. Any ideas? Marie
this sounds like the famous inward sneeze, can sound a bit scary at times, but never found it anything to worry about. when it happens to one of my hounds I tend to rub their snout gently, but this can also work against me (like they realise they can get me to do this on cue - sneaky girls that they are)
if you put in snorting and reverse sneezing into the search, you will see two threads on this issue, and you can perhaps see if any of the descriptions match.
Thanks both of you, I've checked the links and its def reverse sneezing, it just looks so stressful! Hopefully Mason's nose will settle down and we'll both get some sleep - he got up five times during the night to go through this snorting routine before going back to his bed, and woke me every time....but at least I know what it is now!
I remember the first time Neo did it, i thought he was choking on something and couldn't breathe properly I think until you hear it a few times it sounds so scary, made me feel a lot better when i read the forum though and realised how common it is
