Dog friendly holidays and walks
Permalink Closed

With a new year approaching fast my thoughts turn to booking my holidays.  In February my husband and I would like to go away for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary so we are looking for somewhere fairly romantic!  We thought to make it even better, the dogs should come with us.  I'm looking for a place in Scotland either near a good beach for lots of runs for the dogs or near dog friendly hills.  So does anyone know of a nice place that takes dogs too????  I'm also off work the next couple of weeks so I'm looking for decent walks where the dogs can run free and there is not too many other people or dogs (I can go early in the morning).  Also, ideally within 1 hour of Glasgow.  I've been to Mugdock a number of times and it's great, just looking for a change of scene.  Any ideas?  Thank you all!

North Berwick has a fantastic long sandy beach with plenty sand dunes at the John Muir Country Park. There is also a forest walk there. Yellowcraigs is nearby and on the same coast. I don't know about accommodation, though I'm sure some on the forum will know of dog-friendly places in the area.

There are some fantastic walks on the Fife coast as well and I'm sure dog-friendly accommodation is available too. You could always try the Internet to find places to stay - I'm sure there are plenty!

Good luck!

Christine

Have to agree the area around North Berwick is fantastic for dog friendly walks though I am not sure about dog friendly hotels or other accommadation. I will make some enquires for you at the weekend and get back to you. We walk the beaches mentioned on a regualar basis so I can definitly recommend them, the dogs just love them.

Let you know as soon as possible. Nora

I have found that many hotels and B&Bs welcome well behaved greyhounds. I've taken Timmy on lots of my business trips. Just get a guide from the local tourist board for the area you fancy and look for the dog symbol and then when you are booking double check on the phone about their dog policy.

If you are looking for beaches, the Northumberland coast round about Seahouses takes some beating. There are miles and miles of sandy beaches there. Unfortunately I can't suggest any hotels to you as we have only been there taking our caravan.

Hiya

I took up hill/fell walking a couple of years ago. I visit the Lake District almost every other weekend.

Most pubs & B&B`s are happy to accept dogs and make them very, very welcome.

My dogs are nearly always offered water and a blanket to lie on in front of a log fire!

Very dog friendly - check www.laterooms.co.uk

Funnily enough we are doing the same. We found a place (its quite expensive) but it has jaccuzis ans saunas in the villas and its right on a bay (lovely). Seemingly lots of nice walks too. Only thing is they charge 15 quid per dog per stay. We were getting 3 nights in feb for 270 quid. I know its alot of money (hence why we are looking elsewhere, as we were after a week), but for that romantic weekend (what is it they say in the Mastercard advert) it's priceless!.

Have a wee look, its mellowmelfort.com

Aboutscotland.co.uk has some nice places too. We were also looking at the forrestry commision places at forestholidays.co.uk.

Good luck.X
